"Phenomenal stay at the Sail Loft. I stayed a few nights after the Kadampa meditation retreat and absolutely loved my stay. The location is excellent, amazing walking opportunities and the beach is a 30 second walk from the front door!
You can get whatever you need from the coop in town. The place is well heated and all cooking and cleaning amenities are provided.
Place was spotless on entry and had everything I needed. Amazing price too
10/10 & I’ll be back soon"

"A very welcoming place to stay while touring around the nearby distilleries. A great little restaurant, wonderful breakfast and a nice whiskey bar to unwind in the evening. The staff was so friendly and helpful and the rooms were comfortable and clean. Highly recommend!"

"Meals were very good, and it was convenient to have the option for dinner as well. Our room was very quiet and comfortable with room darkening curtains (necessity when visiting in the summer!). The staff were fabulous and helpful!"

Charming hotel with delicious food! The Cullen skink was delicious, as was the steak pie and venison. Breakfast the next day was also fantastic.
The staff were lovely and very attentive and efficient.
The bar had a great choice of beers and gins.
Room 8 has fantastic views as is dual aspect.

This would be our second visit to the station. This time we opted for a suite.
The hotel itself is stunning , quiet , beautifully decorated, and relaxing.
Our suite was spacious and well decorated.
The highlight of the stay, apart from the amazing food, is the staff. The three team members that looked after us were kind, polite and attentive. Georgia in particular was always cheery, and had a knack for being wherever you were when you wanted something.
This hotel is perfect to destress and treat...

Arriving here last Monday , the lady on reception was most professional and courteous , explaining where the breakfast would be , the whisky room , the restaurant etc .. my room was detailed as a single ( snug ? ) room and it was perfect for my needs as an overnight stop single traveller . The room was well appointed , the tv was a little off the mark being as nowadays most hotels of good calibre have wall mounted products rather than this little effort that was perched on a little table at the...

The house and rooms were very clean so when I first went into the house, I was almost about to take off my shoes as a Japanese !!
I could sleep better here than anywhere else, even better than at my house.
Breakfast was also excellent. Haggis is now my favorite food ! Thank you for everything !!

The best area to stay in Portessie is directly along the coastline, particularly around the Portessie Harbour and the adjacent streets.
This area is the heart of Portessie, offering immediate access to the Moray Firth. You'll find a selection of holiday cottages and guesthouses with views of the sea, often just a stone's throw from the pebble beach. The coastal path, part of the larger Moray Coast Trail, runs directly through here, great for leisurely strolls.
Couples seeking a tranquil escape often find this area ideal. The sound of the waves and the opportunity for quiet walks along the shore create a relaxing setting. There are opportunities for wildlife spotting, including dolphins and seals, directly from the coastline.
Families will also appreciate the coastal location. Children can enjoy exploring the rock pools at low tide or playing on the beach.
When is the best time to go to Portessie?
The best time to go to Portessie is during the warmer months, specifically from May to September, when the weather is generally mildest and the days are longer.
During this period, you'll experience average temperatures ranging from 10°C to 18°C, which is ideal for enjoying outdoor activities like coastal walks along the Portessie Beach or exploring the nearby Moray Firth coastline. The longer daylight hours mean more time for sightseeing and enjoying the natural beauty of the area. For instance, the sunset can be as late as 10 pm in June, allowing for extended evenings.
Couples looking for a relaxing getaway will find these months particularly appealing. The pleasant weather is great for exploring the quaint fishing villages along the coast, such as Cullen with its impressive viaduct, or enjoying a leisurely drive through the scenic countryside. Many local attractions, like the Scottish Dolphin Centre in Spey Bay, operate with extended hours during the summer.
Solo travellers seeking outdoor adventures will also appreciate the summer months. The conditions are excellent for hiking parts of the Moray Coast Trail, cycling along quiet country lanes, or taking boat trips to spot local wildlife like seals and dolphins.
