The staff were great and the room, although pretty small, was very comfortable and nicely decorated with an en-suite. The whisky room was impressive and the Copper Dog was a lovely restaurant with a great menu and nice specials. However, we felt that the room rate was high for the room and facilities. There was also a hefty 'facilities fee' which we didn't notice on booking making the room rate advertised as £178 a whopping £212 per night. In addition, this rate was advertised as bed and breakfast. Whilst there was a free breakfast (cereals, cold meats, cheese, fruit and pastries, porridge or eggs with toast), a further supplement of £3-£5 was charged for a full Scottish Breakfast or indeed eggs benedict. We felt that asking for a supplement on some items when the breakfast was advertised as included in the price was poor, considering the high room rate. The food at the Cooper Dog on the whole was great, however, my husband ordered a butterflied chicken breast with salad, which although well cooked was tiny and cost £14 - again pretty steep considering he was still hungry at the end. Whilst the hotel is nicely presented and comfortable, and we had a great time visiting the area, it is overpriced. Given that we can get a basic room at Gleneagles for £236 this is just too expensive for what is offered.
