Boutique? Weird!

Posted 21-Jul-2017
Pros: See above
Cons: See above
Location: According to our friends in Peterborough, this hotel isn't in a good area, but we were unaware of this and didn't have any problems.
We give this hotel 2 stars, one for the cleanliness of the room and one for the cheerful helpfulness of the staff. However, there are problems. 'Bed and Breakfast' in this country implies a full English breakfast, but breakfast is continental and served in your room (a fact not stated on their website); this is fine if you're in a larger room, but the standard-sized rooms are not big enough for this. In fact, the rooms don't even have enough rooms for chairs, and the only other sitting areas in the hotel are in very public places, so this is very unsatisfactory. Another problem was in the shower; this was pleasantly large, but had no internal shower mat and the shower floor was a bit slippery. Given the propensity of hotels to be aware of their clients' safety in showers, this was surprising. The staff couldn't give us a shower mat, but they did provide us with another bath towel to use for this purpose, and this was OK. We also weren't convinced by the quality of the fittings; the bathroom doorstop had formed a hole in the bathroom door, and the door went right over it (photo below). The shower head was also broken, and hung loose. Finally, when we asked the receptionist for a map of Peterborough, she offered to 'print one off' for us. This was helpful, but why didn't they have any tourist literature? This 'printing' took a long time, due to a flaky internet connection; our TV also couldn't receive certain channels, so there are problems to be resolved here.

Lovely friendly staff

Posted 02-Jul-2017
The staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant and the room was nice with coffee and tea making facilities, but didn't really come close to the picture on the site. The mattress was quite uncomfortable too. We arrived on a Sunday evening and there was no British food anywhere around the hotel (plenty of kebab shops though if you like them). The hotel is connected to a beautiful Thai restaurant, but again, if you're not very adventurous with food this didn't help. The continental breakfast was delicious and they brought it to the room. All in all, it certainly wasn't a bad hotel but the few things I've mentioned put a damper on what would otherwise be a really nice stay.

Good value for money

Posted 31-May-2017
There was a special offer for this hotel and after looking at the pics, I decided to go for it. The area itself isn't the best. The lady at the desk, April, was so lovely, nice and very helpful. The room was surprisingly pretty. It was very clean, which is important to me. The decor was slightly opulent, but was aligned with the theme of the nearby Thai restaurant. A nice touch was the bottled water on the table. The bathroom was sanitised and slightly smelled of bleach, so I knew it was clean, which is a biggie for me. The bed was very comfy and we slept soundly. We did wind up eating at Mai Thai next to the hotel, not intentionally. And I'm a very hard person to please with food, especially Thai food, but it was superb! The favours and taste were amazing and I would recommend that restaurant to anyone. Gorgeous Thai green curry and pad Thai. We did eat in the room and the lovely lady at the restaurant insisted that she carry hot plates upstairs for us. Unfortunately, we didn't choose our complimentary breakfast but looked a nice selection. Note: there are no baths in any of the rooms, as I asked upon arrival. The not so good: The lock to the door was loose and looked like it had been fiddled with. The entry before the room had a very strong smell of incense. The windows were quite dated and one wouldn't stay up. The bed wasn't aligned with the tele. All in all, the room had a few quirks, but it was clean and comfortable and I'd happily stay again.

Very comfortable room. All the amenities that you need. Air conditioned, which was useful on a hot evening. Fridge as well and good Thai restaurant next door.

A pleasant couple of nights away

Posted 15-Apr-2017
Pros: Wifi, next to Thai
I wanted somewhere decent and not overly expensive whilst visiting and the Pearl appeared to fit the job. Whilst I hadn't realised there wasn't a dining room/hot breakfast (and the reason I didn't give it full marks) both staff and hotel were very nice. I also liked the idea of the Thai restaurant 'next door' (it's all the same building but you go out of the hotel and a very few yards round to get into the restaurant). I had two good meals there. Very pleasant service, good food, reasonable price. Considering I stayed Friday and Saturday nights I'm surprised I didn't see the restaurant busier.
