The room, shared spaces and breakfast room were beautiful, the staff were fantastic and answered every question, including booking taxis for us, and the breakfast was delicious. I couldn't recommend this place more highly.

Absolutely amazing stay! I could not recommend it more! Francesco was always so helpful and attentive, from after we booked until the moment we left we always felt looked after. Such a beautiful hotel in a perfect location! If we ever find ourselves back again we will be staying here

A great hotel with the usual aspect of the old theatre and cinema still there.
The hotel is also perfectly positioned for strolls into the town and to the sea .
Great views from the terrace.
A good selection at breakfast

After reading reviews booked a two night stay & was very pleased that we did.
Very welcoming attentive staff. Lovely modernised period building, in a perfect position to explore the old town.
Excellent generous breakfast.

Fantastic place - my favourite out of the four we stayed at in Sicily. The owners and staff are very warm and helpful - exceptionally so. The location is great - right in the middle of the restaurant and cafe area of Ortygia, with all key sights within easy walking distance. Depsite having a cafe in the same street, with windows closed it wasn't noisy at night (I'm a light sleeper - it was fine). They have commissioned a mural painter based in Rome to paint the ceilings of the rooms - ours was...

Loved this hotel - greeted by friendly staff and offered a drink as soon as we arrived which was very welcome. Rooms totally unique. Lovely sitting area up on top patio to relax after a long day - staff kindly made us a pot of tea when our tea bags ran out with bone china tea cups!! A drink on the main patio (which was where you could have breakfast too) overlooking the sea under vines was a great way to start the evening where we met some lovely people each evening. Booked on the strength of other reviews - and they weren’t wrong. B&B Porta Marina is a brilliant place to stay for exploring Ortigia, with a warm welcome from an excellent host who gave us invaluable & interesting information for our trip. Great breakfast too; recommended.

Very helful and friendly staff, good location with a lovely sea view room. Breakfast is taken in the partner hotel opposite, which was nice. Parking is available in the nearby car park (very difficult to enter)

Clean and comfortable. Nice welcome and spacious room. Breakfast is a little quirky as it’s all served à la carte. But there’s a good selection of items. I used the valet parking which took a long time to arrive when I was checking in but for check out the car was ready early. A nice stay. Would stay again.

We had a lovely one bedroom apartment with private terrace as our home for three nights. The staff are amazing and so helpful from booking taxis, making sure we were well stoked with coffee and even bringing up a delicious lunch to our room when we arrived a bit frazzled from the airport.
It’s an amazing location a bit deeper into Ortigia so there’s a real locals feel to it.

The island of Ortygia is the historic centre of the city of Syracuse, full of narrow winding alleyways, crumbling buildings and elegant Baroque palaces and churches. A favourite with history buffs and architecture lovers, Ortygia is joined to the mainland by three bridges and is packed with fascinating sights.
Finding Accommodation on the Island of Ortygia
The island has many places to stay, ranging from budget B&Bs to intimate mid-range accommodation and large, elegant five-star hotels. Everything here lies within easy walking distance, too, so you’ll never have to venture far from your hotel before you come across an ancient site or charming piazza lined with cafes.
Discovering Ancient Sites in Ortygia
At the heart of Ortygia lies the Piazza del Duomo, an immaculate square that is home to Syracuse’s impressive Baroque cathedral, one of its most celebrated sights. The Church of Santa Lucia alla Badia and the town hall are also in the square and the street tables of the café opposite the cathedral offer the perfect spot for a glass of wine or espresso and some people watching.
Another of Ortygia’s main sights is the Greek Temple of Apollo, which dates back to the sixth century BC. It’s the oldest known Doric temple in Western Europe, and while today it lies mostly in ruins, there are still many parts left to explore, including its stairs and Doric columns.
Stroll along the Foro Vittorio Emanuele II walkway next to the harbour to see more of Ortygia’s graceful Baroque architecture. Walk along far enough, right to the tip of the island, and you’ll find the Castello Maniace, a citadel built between 1232 and 1240 during the reign of the Roman Emperor Frederick II. It’s an impressive structure which remains largely intact and offers spectacular sea views.
The History of Ortygia
To learn more about the history of the island, head back across the bridge to the main city of Syracuse. Here you’ll find the Museo Archeologico Regionale Paolo Orsi, which is one of the most important in the area. It details the history of Syracuse and Ortygia and also displays many of the objects found in nearby archaeological sites such as Neapolis and Akrai.
