Pocket Guide: Newmarket Newmarket Racecourse Hotels

Newmarket Racecourse is one of Britain's premier horse racing venues, located in the town of Newmarket, in the county of Suffolk. Billed as the home of horse-racing, Newmarket boasts many of the sport's most important organisations, including The National Stud and Horseracing Museum. It also hosts two of the British classics races, the 1,000 Guineas, and 2,000 Guineas, as well as a vast number of other races - roughly 40 race days in total! Newmarket actually consists of two courses, The Rowley Mile Course and The July Course.

A Racecourse with a Long History

With a history dating back to the time of James I in the early-17th Century, Newmarket Racecourse sits at the heart of British horseracing. It was Charles II, however, who really encouraged the growth of Newmarket as a horseracing town, and one of the races he established, the Town Plate, is still run today. After 350 years of royal patronage, Newmarket isn't just the British heartland of horse racing, but is a global centre for Thoroughbred breeding and training - definitely, the place to go if you're staying in hotels in Suffolk and fancy a grand day out at the races!

A Great Family Day Out in Easy Reach of Hotels in Suffolk

Newmarket Racecourse isn't just a horseracing venue, but it also hosts many events throughout the year, including music concerts and family fun days. Even if you're new to the sport, the racecourse typically has a party atmosphere and is well worth stopping by if you're staying in the Suffolk region. Because of its horseracing heritage, Newmarket is very tourist friendly and you'll find lots of top quality Newmarket hotels close by, including the stunning Paddock's House Hotel, which was once owned by Lord Byron's sister and is a rather magnificent 18th-century house.

Newmarket is used to entertaining the great and the good of the horseracing world, so has more than its fair share of luxury hotels, fine eating establishments and quality pubs. Transport links to the town are excellent too, and if you're not travelling by car you can reach Newmarket Racecourse via Newmarket railway station or even by bus, with regular services running into town from nearby Cambridge and Bury St. Edmunds.
