Flights to Miami
Miami is Florida’s party town. Thanks to its glamorous nightlife and white-sand beaches, it is one of the state’s most popular travel destinations, and Miami International Airport is the giant that serves it.
Sprawled across nearly 500 acres of terminal space, Miami International is the biggest airport in Florida and one of the busiest in the world. It is a major US gateway and welcomes around 44 million passengers each year – a huge average of around 120,000 people every day.
Hotels at Miami International Airport
Miami International is the first stop for more than two thirds of Florida’s international visitors, so there is no shortage of hotels on the doorstep. Although all budgets are catered for, it’s the affordable big-name brands that dominate and top-rated three-star hotels are in high supply.
There are hotels with big suites for families and others with rooms tailored for business travel. But something virtually all of them have in common is a big outdoor pool for making the most of the Florida sunshine.
Transport from Miami International Airport
Whichever direction your hotel is in, moving on from the airport is easy. For starters, most Miami hotels offer guests free shuttle rides from the airport. Alternatively, you can jump on the free MIA Mover, Miami International’s speedy driverless tram, to reach bus and train services at the Metrorail station. The Mover also makes stops at the car-rental centre, which houses more than a dozen rent-a-car companies. If you’d rather jump in a cab or shuttle bus, both are always available from ranks outside baggage reclaim.
Miami International Airport’s Shops and Restaurants
From books to designer fashion, there’s a broad range of shops across the airport’s three terminals. And the food options are just as varied. You’ll find the usual mix of fast-food outlets, coffee shops and chain restaurants. But you can also refuel at a cocktail lounge or one of several 24-hour snack bars. There’s so much going on, it’s even got its own mobile app – MIA Airport Official – to help you navigate its mass of shops, restaurants and transport options.
Flying to Miami from the UK
Non-stop flights from London Heathrow to Miami usually take nine hours and 30 minutes and this route is one of the airport’s busiest. Close to one million passengers fly between Miami International Airport and Heathrow every year, with British Airways, Virgin Airways and American Airlines.
