Child-Friendly Places on Maui Island
Kaanapali, north of Lahaina, is one of Maui Island’s best mid-range resort areas, with plenty of facilities and attractions suitable for families. Head to Kaanapali Beach for excellent swimming and snorkeling, then explore the beach’s tropical gardens.
For some good food and shopping as well as hula and lei-making classes go to Whalers Village, just back from the beach. And if you’re in town between November and May, hop aboard a whale-watching boat trip from the harbour
Maui Ocean Center for Kids
Kids love exploring Maalaea’s Maui Ocean Center, a large aquarium complex home to many of the island’s native marine life. See hammerhead shark pups in the Hammerhead Harbor and spot the endangered Hawaiian green sea turtles in the Turtle Lagoon. Kids also have the chance to get hands on in the Tide Pool section and touch some local sea life.
Child-Friendly Surfing on Maui Island
Most beaches on Maui Island are suitable for surfers, but the best for lessons and beginners are Kaanapali Beach and Kalama Beach Park in Kihei, with its small waves and shallow waters. Your child-friendly hotel can help book lessons at either beaches’ surf schools.
