The Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono

2199 Kaho'okele Street, Wailuku - Map
We had a large room with a really nice soaking tub. It was laid out kind of like a studio which was pretty cool. Pros: Nice staff, amazing breakfasts, charming common areas and grounds, walkable to Wailuku town Cons: Bed was a bit soft, wifi was a bit finicky depending on which area you are in (but definitely worked) All in all a great place to stay, and probably one of the best, if not the best in Wailuku town area.

"Quiet, private and feels like home."
My husband and I stayed at Tradewinds for three nights. We wish it could have been longer. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained with a view of both the mountains and the ocean. The owners are gracious, welcoming and eager to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The Traidewinds Suite is in the lower part of the owners home with a large room and a screened off area for the bedroom. There is a futon in the living room area with satellite TV. There are indoor and outdoor eating areas, a hammock, lounge chairs, a private hot tub, outdoor shower all for your use and not shared. Bev provides juices, ice tea, tea and coffee, granola bars, fresh fruit and cereal with almond milk for you to make your own breakfast. We bought eggs and bread and made them ourselves. We actually preferred being able to eat what and when we wanted rather than having the B & B having a prepared breakfast at a set time. There are free laundry facilities with all soap etc. supplied. This was a great deal as we had spent about $22 on laundromats earlier in the trip.

Pocket Guide: Bed and Breakfast Hotels in Maui Island

Maui Island’s Bed and Breakfast Hotels

If you’re travelling on a budget, Maui Island’s B&Bs offer comfortable accommodation at very reasonable prices. Start the day with a continental breakfast and end it enjoying Hawaiian specialities in onsite restaurants. Maui’s B&Bs also have plenty of leisure facilities, from indulgent spa services to picturesque garden and picnic areas.

Where to Find Maui’s Bed and Breakfast Hotels

Many of Maui’s B&Bs are around Kahului, the main transport hub on Maui Island. Ferries regularly depart its harbour for Hawaii’s other islands, and Maui’s main airport is a ten-minute drive from the centre of town.

From your bed and breakfast hotel, you can explore traditional Hawaiian culture in Kahului, especially at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. Spend the evening at one of the centre’s many theatre productions and dance performances to soak up the best of island culture.

Also known for its markets, Kahului has the weekly Maui Swap Meet, a great place to stroll around, rummage through stalls of souvenirs and knickknacks and chat to locals.

    Explore Maui from your B&B

Leave your B&B for the day and take the coastal drive down the Hana Highway to enjoy some of Maui Island’s most impressive sights. The road twists and turns between the rugged coast and lush rainforest, and there are plenty of spots to pull over to hike to waterfalls, swimming holes and secluded bays. The small town of Hana marks the end of the drive, where you’ll find plenty more hikes and a number of historic sites.

    Evening Entertainment on Maui Island

Head to Maui Island’s shopping malls for daily hula shows and other traditional Polynesian dance performances. There are even lei making and ukulele classes to get involved in.

Most of Maui Island’s resort areas have popular live music venues, most of which are right next to the beach. Choose between jazz bars in Lahaina, live DJs in Kahului and traditional island entertainment in Wailea, then head back to your bed and breakfast for a good night’s rest.
