On arrival, the oven and hob were visibly dirty with grease and residue, and the kitchen overall did not appear to have been properly cleaned. "Really enjoyed our time at the Little Cow House. Starting with the very warm welcome from our lovely hosts and delicious welcoming homemade cake. The house is very nicely furnished, immaculately clean and very well equipped, and is warm and cosy; you can hear the river rushing in the valley below and the rooms have lovely views of trees and fields. Would like to come back and visit again in the summer to really make the mot of the great walks and sights in the area."

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel and Spa Chester

8/10 Good

"Stay at Doubletree in Chester was very good. The room was very clean, bed was super comfy and it was very modern. The hotel décor, spa facilities, restaurant and bar area including the outside area and patio was well maintained. One particular Receptionist had no clue how to do her job whatsoever. The other Receptionist not too sure of her name, a younger girl was very pleasant and clearly knew how to do her job well. Two things needed to be improved, we tried to check in our room just after 3pm and it wasn't ready. We decided to go and have a drink on the patio as it was a very hot day, the clueless Receptionist wasn't very apologetic at this and tried to make out we were wrong, when in fact we were right that we could check in at 3pm as stated on the app!! It was extremely busy as we stayed over a Bank Holiday and clearly, the staff were not prepared for the amount of people who were staying, breakfast was very busy, tables weren't laid out, no clean cutlery on there or mug available, I had to ask a waitress fornsome for me and my husband. The breakfast was good quality and even better included in the price. The location of the hotel is ideal and central if wanting to explore Chester. Would certainly recommend and the welcome cookie was a nice added extra."

"The room was pretty much clean, not perfect but well maintained. The staff were so helpful and friendly. I enjoyed breakfast every morning and having the option to use the bar until late, this was particularly helpful when wanting a cold drink when I came in after a day of exploring. Helpfully close to the station and town, many places and sights within walking distance. Didn't get a chance to use the spa but would love to go back to try it. Overall great hotel and would definitely book again."

"Lovely friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for reception staff. £20 overnight parking is a little extortionate though! Didn't note electric charging points in car park, although I didn't ask either (have hybrid, so not really an issue for me). Could be useful in future though. No tea/coffee making facilities in room- just water."

"I'm sure the hotel is lovely. As the location and the building is stunning. However I had zero sleep the room was extremely hot the fan was broken and clicking all night and not powerful enough to keep the room cool. I think they could helped things by drawing the curtains in the rooms were guests are staying so it does not get so hot. I understand it was the weather too, but I've paid to sleep in a hotel that was so hot and no working fan."
