Nice hotel but needs improvement

Posted 16-Oct-2016
Firstly when booking online watch you don't get conned by the site stating breakfast is included only when you confirm you find out it is continental breakfast only and you have to pay extra for a cooked one. Room was stifling hot. No air con and tv reception is terrible as is wifi quality

Traffic noise all night

Posted 30-Aug-2016
Pros: Spacious rooms
Cons: Attention to detail, customer focus, restaurant quality and service
Location: Brockholes is a surprising treat.
Rooms spacious and comfy but no air con and the hotel is right by the M6 and A59 so traffic noise is constant, worsened by needing windows open in warmer weather. Advertises as a Scottish Steakhouse as a restaurant and so cooking steaks well would be the first order, i wasn't the only one to send my steak back and if i had to eat there again i would order off another part of the menu.

Handy for business use

Posted 05-Aug-2016
Pros: easy of access from motorway for quick stop over
Cons: staff attitude
slightly disappointing as there was no shower / shampoo in my room and on checkout I mentioned to staff at desk who said he would pass onto house keeping but there was no apology

Convenient location but dated hotel

Not quite to the usual standard of a Macdonald hotel. Rooms are in need of refurbishment and bedding smelt of cigarette smoke

Don't stay if you're disabled

Posted 22-Jul-2016 on Hotels
I'm sorr to say that if you are disabled, this hotel has nothing offer. My husband was unable to take a shower as the disabled room only had a bath, and rooms with showers, the step up was too height and the door wouldn't open wide enough. None of the rooms are accessible without going through a fire exit at the side of the hotel into a lift which hardly fit a wheelchair, which meant you had to go back through his he fire exit in the morning and around to the front of the hotel to get to breakfast, great when it's raining!! Felt like second class citizens

very nice hotel

Posted 21-Jul-2016
Pros: everything
Location: the location was ideal for us as we were attending a wedding just up the road and its just off the motorway.
check in was very good,my wife has just had a knee replacement and the young lady on reception swapped our room around so that we were on the ground floor and close to reception all of the staff were so helpful.

perfect say with family

Posted 19-Jul-2016 on Hotels
I booked 5 rooms for my family, a sad occasion, funeral, but we were welcomed and made to feel very comfortable by all of the staff.. the bedrooms were lovely, beds very comfortable, they saw my father on two sticks and immediately offered a room on the lower floor which had disabled bathroom which was perfect... the breakfast was very good, lovely selection from continental to full English. restaurant food was great, a bit a la carte so the men could have ate more but it was very tasty.. the location on the river is perfect so long as you have a room on that side which we did, the view is amazing. the other side of the hotel looks out onto the car park but as comfortable I am sure . every single member of staff were polite, talkative and had perfect manners... my husband and I will be booking this again when we visit the lakes and surrounding area later on the year.

Hotel gloom

Posted 17-Jul-2016 on Hotels
We arrived at approximately 20:00 hours at the hotel as a stop over towards Scotland, and the reception staff were very friendly and informative,we went for our meal at the restaurant and the standard of the food is a bit low, I had to send back my mash potato as is was cold and not even warm. The price for a fillet steak was a bit on the high side being £27 and nothing special, the breakfast was continental and an added supplement would have the breakfast at £16 each, and wasn't anything special. The continental was not very good with only cheese and salami on offer. I had a continental breakfast last year at the B&B hotel in Paderborn, and this was far superior with a better selection of cold meats, cheese, bread rolls and boiled eggs, the one at this hotel wasn't very inspiring. The hotel is dated and needs some tender loving care and the price of the meals are extortionate, as they have a captive audience with the staff not selling the aspects of going into the city centre. Overall not a very good experience and will certainly give this hotel a body swerve if I'm in the area.

Overnight stay

Posted 10-Jul-2016
We were looking for an overnight stay on a long journey north and this hotel fit the bill. Close to the M6 but we were not disturbed by traffic noise at all and had a good night's sleep. Nearby is a Costa, Subway and a Nisa store if you need to stock up. The room was spacious and comfortable. We would definitely use this hotel again.
