Affordable and very friendly staff

We were in Ipswich for a wedding and wanted an affordable place to stay one night only, so we didn't spend much time in the hotel. Even though it's next to the train station and line, it was very quiet and relaxing. There's a park behind the hotel too, but we didn't have the chance to visit it.
We were allowed to check in early and were upgraded to an en-suite room. Both of these were greatly appreciated, and the reception/welcome was very friendly.
The bed was comfortable and there were towels and soap - no shampoo though. The room was spacious and everything worked as expected. The only negative comment about the room was the strong smell of cigarette in it. We didn't check whether this was a no-smoking hotel though, so maybe our fault. There was also a loud noise sometimes after flushing, but it stopped soon.
One point that we felt could be easily improved was breakfast: we were served tin plum tomatoes and my girlfriend's beans didn't seem to have been cooked at all. The coffee was weak, but not too bad. The rest was fine.
This is a positive review! Even though there were things to be improved the staff was really friendly and we didn't have any major issues. The location is excellent if you want to be close to the station (early train maybe), and our stay was more pleasant than we had anticipated.
