Whether it’s an activity filled break you are after with the family or you’re more interested in history and the arts, Hertfordshire as it all.

There is also the added alternative of kicking back and relaxing in unspoilt countryside this southern English county has to offer.

Hertfordshire has accommodation to suit all visitors to the county, with hotels suitable for both spa and golfing breaks in the middle of the relaxing Hertfordshire countryside. Alternatively you may prefer to stay in one of the many market towns or have a weekend in the cathedral town of St. Albans. Each offer the opportunity to explore the local area by day and sit back and relax with the locals in one of many country pubs offering great food cooked with locally sourced produce.

Family Fun in Hertfordshire

Take the family for a walk on the wild side at Paradise Wildlife Park where the whole family can get a closer look at some impressive animals. With lions, tigers and zebras it is as close to an African Safari as one could get in Hertfordshire. Aside from the animals there are adventure playgrounds on site to keep the whole family entertained all day long. Butterfly World Project may also be of interest. Both fun and educational, it’s a unique place to see many different species of tropical butterflies.

A Slice of History in St. Albans

St. Albans Cathedral is often described as the jewel in the crown of this Hertfordshire town. Standing at the top of the hill of St. Albans, it’s full of history. It’s worth visiting for the architecture alone, with its many chambers and incredible stained glass windows. Part of the building is constructed from the ruins of roman Verulamium in the 11th Century. Development carried out through the ages has left many intricate carvings and attractive colours representing different aspects of work carried out. The shrine of St Albans is worth visiting too.

The Natural History Museum at Tring is a lovely place to visit a really interesting place in the small Hertfordshire town of Tring. Built in 1889 to house the zoological collection of Walter Rothschild it has everything from tiny beetles to huge bears. Aside from the permanent zoological collection the museums programme updates regularly, making it well worth a visit when in Hertfordshire.

Take Time to Relax

If it’s peace and tranquillity you seek then Ashridge Estate in Berkhamstead is one such place you can visit to relax and enjoy beautiful surroundings. Take a picnic, walk through the woods covered in bluebells and enjoy the wonderful views over the surrounding Hertfordshire countryside from the park’s monument.

With big name brand stores, smaller local boutiques and, of course, local markets on hand to you are sure to satisfy that shopping urge. Perhaps treat yourself to some of the local flavours of the market.
