The Cairn is a bit of an old dame who has passed her best but still has a quirky charm in her creaks and groans of hot water coughing it’s way up Victorian pipe work, sometimes never making it!
I actually quite admire the tenacity of the staff having to patch over the fading paintwork and tattered carpets but I must admit of our three night stay, not having either hot water or heating for one day was a bit too much. No apology just more of a shrug.
Would I stay here again? Probably not despite the decaying charm you don’t get in a modern, chain hotel,
