"Booked a double-double room for a university visit. Hotel location is excellent and the room was clean and relatively well equipped, if a little dated. Beds were comfortable and there were the usual facilities in there too (fan, iron and boars, safe etc..) The only negative point is that there is no air conditioning, which - given that we managed to arrive on a day that was 27c - was a problem. The fans helped but it was still a clammy and uncomfortable night. Even budget hotels these days have AC so if you're staying in York during the warmer months it's worth bearing this in mind - especially when we paid almost £300/night."

"Every member of staff we encountered from the receptionist to the maintenance staff and bar/restaurant staff were excellent. Such good customer service the manager should be very proud. Room was very good , clean, roomy and well appointed. The only complaint we had was that the drains in the bathroom smelt bad. It didn’t stop us enjoying our stay but if we had been staying more than one night we would have asked to change rooms. Apart from that we would definitely return."

"Excluding the non functional ac in my room it was a very pleasant stay with incredible views of the minster very safe for solo travellers and for people who like nights out its round the corner from the iconic flares nightclub for people who like peace and quiet it is also really well suited the rooms have excellent sound insulation hardly any noise"

"Perfectly located right by the train station for rail links and also a very short walk into the beautiful city centre. The hotel is stunning inside and out. Our room was clean but sadly the air con had a mind of its own and would almost “flush” every hour, which woke me every hour in the night, that combined with the vibration of the fridge in the wardrobe, it wasn’t the best nights sleep. Breakfast was delicious and fresh."

"We had a lovely room on the 3rd floor but it was very hot as a result of the recent high temperatures. This made sleep difficult until the early hours of the morning when the weather cooled. All the staff we encountered were great - very helpful, pleasant and cheerful. Breakfast was standard but absolutely no complaints. It is a very old property but some way of keeping the upper rooms cooler in high summer temperatures would be a major improvement.. perhaps by increasing the roof insulation"
