For an interesting water-based experience on dry land in Eilat, survey the sterns of visiting watercraft to determine their origins.
Eilat Marina is located in the heart of the city, so any visit to the area will undoubtedly bring you to this port. The marina’s setting on this inlet of the Red Sea, known as the Gulf of Eilat or Aqaba, is idyllic. The city’s modern buildings frame two sides while distant mountains provide a backdrop on another. Marvel at the size and beauty of some of the pleasure craft that make Eilat their port of call.
Expect to see border police and customs officials here, as Eilat is a major sea entry point from Jordan, Egypt and other areas to the south. Because it is a full-service marina with water and electricity in the middle of a city, dock space is generally at a premium. Book a mooring in advance if you are arriving by boat. Southwest of the city is Dolphin Reef. Head east of the marina to reach Eilat’s beaches.
The city’s commercial areas are very accessible from the marina. Eilat’s tax-free status provides an important reason for the city’s popularity. Take a water tour offered by a number of businesses at the marina, rent a boat or be active with watersports such as waterskiing, paragliding over the sea and sailing. The marina is a great family destination. Stay at one of the hotels that surround the marina to help create a memorable visit to this southern Israeli city.
Go diving to see an underwater wreck near the marina and schools of small fish swimming among the coral. In addition to the other activities in and near Eilat, a walk along the marina’s promenade should definitely be included, with a meal at one of the restaurants. Be mesmerized with incredible sunsets through a maze of boat masts or go on an evening water tour. End the day with Eilat Marina’s lively social scene at your choice of bars and nightclubs.
