Only criticism was the restaurant under refurbishment and breakfast was in the ground floor bar area but I presume this is only temporary.
Room was nice. Clean. Great view.
Overall better than some much more expensive hotels I have stayed in before.

"Great Boutique Hotel Near Little Italy, Chinatown"
After some recent reviews, I was hesitant about my upcoming stay at the Sohotel. However, I'm happy to report that I had a pleasant one-night stay. I took a taxi from LaGuardia Airport, and had the driver take the Williamsburg Bridge as Google Maps stated it was the quickest route. I arrived within 35 minutes and paid $40 with tip. I was greeted at the hotel by Singh, who took my bag and showed me up to the lobby. As others have pointed out, this is a very old building (built in 1808) and does not have elevators. I didn't find this to be an issue but I only had one carry-on bag.
I arrived 10 minutes prior to scheduled check-in so my room was not ready. Instead of having me wait, I was upgraded to a bigger room - free-of-charge. The room had two double beds and one twin. Everything was clean. There was full size shampoo, conditioner and shower gel bottles in the shower. There was also complimentary travel size toothpaste and lotion in the bathroom.
I was told there was construction going on until 5 pm but I didn't mind the noise. At night, there was very little street noise but the pipes were rather loud, and woke me up twice.
Checkout was quick and simple. I had an event to attend between checkout and my flight, but the hotel gladly stored my bags as well as scheduled a car to pick me up when I returned.
Overall, a great experience.

"Great hotel for easy commuting in/around New York!"
Stayed at the Holiday Inn NYC Lower East Side for 4 nights in November 2015.
The hotel is excellently located for commuting in/around New York! (near the Williamsburg Bridge and only 2 mins walk from the Delancey/Essex Street subway station....... 10 minute journey up to Times Square/Central Park area)
Hotel was very clean, staff were always helpful and friendly.
Free wifi with good reception throughout the hotel.... not just in the lobby like some places.
Prices in the "on site" bar were a bit expensive but there were plenty of alternatives close by for it not to be a problem.
Overall I would recommend this hotel to anybody wanting to stay in the Lower East Side
Location worked very well for what we had planned for the weekend. Loud noises outside but that is very typical of a NYC room. Room was very small but it suited all our needs! Clean updated bathroom..bed was super comfy! Staff was very nice as well.
The Comfort Inn was located in China Town. We experience chinese cuisine and the many outdoor markets they had close by the hotel. We also venture out to Little Italy were we saw the competition between the many restaurants as you were trying to pick which one to select from. We had the subway about a block away from the hotel which we used for our entire stay in Manhattan. We visited the Statue of Liberty, One World Observatory, the elevator ride to the 101th floor was less than 6 seconds, that's awesome but the 360 view of all Manhattan was spectacular. We also visited Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Top of the World Observatory, and the one and only Empire State Building. The subway system was great to get around the city with a Metro Card which you can buy for a week, which is what we did. The people were very friendly and nice. My overall experience in New York was great.

"good location in Chinatown, very close to subway! "
We picked this hotel because of it's location. We wanted to see Chinatown and be near the subway and not pay a fortune for the night, and this hotel fit the bill. It was not fancy but it was comfortable and clean. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was spacious and there was a nice TV. The blind and curtains gave it kind of a drab look, and the heater smelled when you first turned it on, but it worked fine. There were also some nice touches they added to the bathroom such as unopened toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, soaps, and lotions. I would stay here again for the location if I wanted to do things around the area again.
Pocket Guide: New York East Village - Lower East Side Hotels
The East Village has long been an incubator of the arts, capturing the rhythm of New York as reflected in musical and poetic verses from jazz to punk rock, from the Beats to the Nuyoricans. The neighborhood boasts Manhattan's highest concentration of bars along with diverse choices for dining and shopping as exemplified in the 3-block span of St. Mark's Place.
