Owners of the hotel have done a great job renovating this space. My only issues were that the ladies on duty when we checked in were not familiar with the area, and that there was no in-room coffee/tea.
Affordable by the standards of Manhattan, OK size by those same standards. Deep in Chinatown, practically beneath the Manhattan Bridge, 1/2 mile walk to Grand St subway. From my room, I could probably hit a bridge biker with a rock, but with windows closed it wasn't loud. Hotel 91 is better than its surroundings. Although not a dangerous area, Chinatown isn't exactly upscale. Clean room. Free in-room Wi-fi is predictably poor.

This is a small, old but chic hotel. Very clean and conveniently close to China Town and Little Italy, and to subways stations that take you in minutes to everywhere. We stayed in a big room with 3 beds, which made it affordable.

I booked this hotel at a great rate on Expedia. I had a delux suite that had all you could ask for especially for the price. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen and nearby Whole Foods helped keep dining costs down when desired and the bathroom was large, water was hot and the water pressure was good.
The only things that would have made it better were the internet was spotty at times and the glass shelf in the bathroom right over the sink covered half the sink making it difficult at times to wash without hitting it. Moving it to the side would be perfect for me.
The kitchen cupboard doors were a little banged up but did not impact the enjoyment of a large living space over the usual NYC hotel room that you can barely walk around the bed.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and the subway was only a few blocks away. I would not hesitate to stay here again. It will definitely be on my places to consider on my next trip.
Good location for travel options with three subway stops approx. 3/5/7 minutes walk away.
Central downtown location which was great for exploring neighbouring districts.
Staff very pleasant and accommodating.
Hotel clean with fresh decor.
Only complaint would be extractor fan in bathroom wasn't working and space for hanging towels was limited. But these points are so minor we didn't raise them with hotel.

The hotel room was much smaller than expected, but the room was in good shape and very modern. The hotel was the tallest building on the street so we had a great view. The neighborhood was very fun, with many nice restaurants, bars, museums, etc within easy walking distance. The only downside was the room cleaning - I stayed for a week and the state of the room after being cleaned was very inconsistent (lotion in the shower instead of conditioner, washcloths on the floor not being replaced, etc).
Friendly staff and beautifully appointed rooms with a 1920's - 1930's motif. The location is perfect (especially for foodies). Chinatown, Little Italy and the Lower East Side are right there and it's within walking distance of both the Village and Lower Manhattan. I enjoyed my stay thoroughly and look forward to returning.

Pocket Guide: New York East Village - Lower East Side Hotels
The East Village has long been an incubator of the arts, capturing the rhythm of New York as reflected in musical and poetic verses from jazz to punk rock, from the Beats to the Nuyoricans. The neighborhood boasts Manhattan's highest concentration of bars along with diverse choices for dining and shopping as exemplified in the 3-block span of St. Mark's Place.
