Great staff, good food but rooms need refreshing.

Posted 15-May-2017
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff
Cons: Room facilities and comfort
Location: Very handy for Riviera centre
Made very welcome on arrival. Staff all very friendly. Initial room small with standard UK double bed and uncomfortable mattress. No problem at all when asked if room change possible and new room more spacious with king bed and better mattresses. Still a couple of minor problems; bathroom extractor fan didn't work and drawer front unglued. Breakfasts excellent but didn't eat in otherwise as prior arrangements. Found out afterwards would have been cheaper if I'd booked direct. Shame on you Expedia!

Pleasant hotel conveniently placed

Posted 27-Apr-2017
Pros: Good sized rooms; conveniently placed; excellent breakfast and polite staff.
Cons: Make lunch and dinner menus more child friendly with properly balanced meals
Location: Beautiful park behind hotel with good swimming centre for kids, also a cafe, pitch-n-put and fun putting course. Beach nearby. Easy walk to harbour.
Well positioned within easy walking distance of train station and centre/harbour. Clean and large rooms if decor a little tired. Staff exceptionally polite. Very good breakfast cooked to order and served at table. Dinner menu is refined with a small selection of Michelin 2 star dishes. Good for occasional dinner, however the menu does not change from day to day so if staying full board I guess it would become repetitious. Not really suitable for children either, they do offer a possible alternative for children but spaghetti with just a tomato sauce as offered to us is not a balanced meal there being no protien and basically no vegetables.

Stately hotel, fine location, one major quirk

Posted 21-Apr-2017
Pros: The rooms are recently renovated. Location is ideal. It is a fine, stately hotel.
Cons: Arrival logistics (parking, valet service) needs some new thinking.
Location: Location is one block from the principal beach front of Torquay. Many restaurants within walking distance.
Stayed one night, and everything was fine -- apart from the quirky physical set-up for arrival by car. There is a cramped parking lot at the main entrance, with all the spaces labeled "reserved for Mr. ____" (hotel managers? long-term guests?) So, what do they expect arriving guests to do? It turned out that valet service could be arranged, and the front desk staff were friendly and scurried to help. My suggestion is that they reserve at least a couple of spaces for arriving guests and make the arrangements (valet or self-parking) more apparent via signs. On positive notes, our room was recently renovated, large, and everything worked well. The restaurant was very pleasant for breakfast and the food was good. The location is one block from the beach -- easy walking. The indoor pool is small and feels dated, but the other public areas have been nicely renovated and the property around the hotel is pleasant.

Not for children

Posted 16-Apr-2017
We pulled into an empty parking bay to be met by a howl of horror from the new "Porter" telling us to move, but there was s car blocking entry to the only other empty bay - his! He then moved his car to allow us to park, thereby blocking other cars in. On departure I told him I do not think he should have his car in the front parking area, but he stated it was inconvenient for him to park at the rear of the hotel. The food option for our children age 10 & 8 at dinner was sausage or chicken and chips for £7. The adult menu is too avant-garde for the venue. The previous menu was much better and the food excellent. They added £38 worth of drinks incorrectly to our bill! There was insufficient seating at breakfast as the restaurant has been reduced in size and they were unprepared for the guests, with no-one clearing tables. We 4 had to cram round a table for 2. We have cancelled our future bookings.

Posted 14-Feb-2017
Stayed here twice now, the first time not so great as was cold no heating on during November had a thin duvet which made it worse! Second time around much better nice warm comfortable beds heating on in February.. fresh clean rooms.. bathroom was immaculate, must have be refurbishing as spa was repainted much better! Pools was lovely and warm as last time was freezing! Staff was lovely really friendly!! New owner has took over so we heard so there doing a great job! Overall lovely stay would recommend and stay again myself.. only downfall was breakfast that needs a little work.. toast wasn't even toasted, coffee wasn't great.. fry up was ok but not the best.

Birthday present for my wife.

Posted 15-Dec-2016
Pros: The staff were all very friendly and eager to help. The food we had was very good.
Cons: There is always room for improvement but it would be very picky to single anything out.
Location: We found the location ideal, close to the sea front and flat walk to the town. Leisure centre virtually next door.
Stayed in the Grosvenor some years ago and I must say that there has been an excellent transformation, the improvements have been done to a high standard.

Greeting on arrival by receptionist very warm plus helpful and easy check in, explained all facilities available for our use during our stay. Would stay again the hotel has been refurbished since our last stay and continues to be the case. Thanks for a very pleasant and warm welcome.
