On Jersey's dramatic southwestern corner, La Corbière is the oldest reinforced-concrete lighthouse in the country. It's only a short drive from a fantastic range of hotels, from luxury five-star retreats to value-for-money bed-and-breakfast accommodation.
Easy to reach by bus in summer, this lighthouse is 19 metres high and was first lit in 1874. It is overlooked by striking cliffs, and is one of the best locations in Jersey to see the sunset. The name translates into English as 'a place where crows gather', and the water beneath the dangerous rocks surrounding the lighthouse is home to numerous shipwrecks.
Many Jersey hotels now provide free unlimited WiFi access so you can check your e-mails and stay in touch with family and friends as much as you like at no extra cost. Some rooms also have en-suite bathrooms with showers that include a hydro massage feature to make your stay that little bit more comfortable, and some also contain tea and coffee amenities for your convenience.
If you're staying in a deluxe hotel, you will have access to a fully equipped gym or fitness centre so you can always stay on top of your workout schedule while you are away.
See a fantastic operatic performance, live comedy or dance at the Jersey Opera House, or visit the Maritime Museum to learn more about Jersey's military and maritime heritage. St. Helier is also home to the flourishing Central Market, where you can find superb flower displays and plenty of locally produced vegetables and fruits. Visit the Jersey Museum and Art Gallery and discover what life would have been like in Jersey in prehistoric and ancient times. This superb venue also tells the story of the Jersey's gradual shift from a predominantly agricultural island into a desirable holiday destination.
One of the most luxurious places to stay in the town is the five-star Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa, which offers sophisticated contemporary rooms, an indoor heated pool, a fully equipped spa, and excellent business facilities for corporate guests.
