Cozy, Welcoming - Great Hosts
We booked last minute to get out of the bustle of the city. Suzanne and John were really thoughtful in sharing that there was unexpected roadwork outside the cottage, giving us the opportunity to find another place to stay but we decided to go ahead and are so glad that we did. The cottage is comfortable and quaint with all the amenities you need to relax. The cottage is walking distance to local cafes, restaurants, and bars. It was great for a weekend away and exactly what we needed. Definitely on our list to revisit, thanks for having us!

Lovely, peaceful getaway
This property met all our expectations and more ! It was so homely and cosy. We visited with our pup, who absolutely loved the enclosed garden. Lots of places to visit locally and many many walks had by all. Thank you 😊

Fantastic stay!
An amazing well equipped cottage. Hosts were fantastic and couldn't do enough for us. Would highly recommend for a family break with your four legged fur baby :-). Lots of lovely walks and the nearby water park was a hit with the braver members of the family. They also do great coffee and cake.

Cottage getaway
We had a wonderful stay at Wayside cottage. The hosts really did go above and beyond. The cottage was cosy and situated in a lovely village. It was spotless and the attention to detail was spot on. We would love to stay here again.

Cosy cottage
Very pleasant and comfortable long weekend stay. Suzanne & John made us feel very much at home, meeting all our needs and very easy to contact. The cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped, including a decent sized and well maintained garden. The 'goodies' there on our arrival were well appreciated. As stated in the listing, the road is fairly heavily used but the noise was not intrusive and S&J have arranged for very suitable nearby parking. We are already looking to return

Peaceful, cosy cottage
Like home from home & very comfortable. Lots of extras provided. Eg bread, milk, tea. Street parking a little difficult but owner had sorted parking arrangements with a nearby local business. Good location to explore Essex coast.

Perfect location for quiet holiday
This cottage is perfect for a quiet getaway. It is clean and has many little extras included that you would not expect. Lovely garden which is very secure. St Osyth is a little village with some good dog walks. The hosts have thought of everything to help you have a good holiday.

Outstanding Cottage
This cottage was perfect. It was very clean. All the little extras that are included are very much appreciated and there was much more than we expected, even dog towels to dry your pet in case you don't have any. St Osyth is a lovely village, very peaceful and we found some good dog walks and is only a short drive to Clacton and Colchester. The garden is very secure as our dog is only little but there was nowhere for him to get out. The owners were very helpful and we hope to stay again.

Fantastic cottage
Had a lovely stay here for 2 nights despite the awful weather. The cottage was clean, homely and everything you need. Right down to brand new toothbrushes. Communication with the owners was fantastic. Only downfall for me was the noise of passing traffic. Although not terribly busy was still quite loud even of a night, I am a very light sleeper though Beautiful walks and short distance to beach.

Brilliant Cottage
Everything about the cottage was wonderful. Lovely extra touches such as wine in fridge along with everyday essentials - milk, bread etc. Excellent value for money with all bed linen and towels included. The robes and toiletries made it feel like a hotel stay! Nicely placed for exploring area. Would highly recommend.

A perfect time away
Thank you Suzanne and John for a perfect stay. Very good pre-stay communication, directions and access to the cottage. Also for the provisions for breakfast - orange juice, tea/coffee, milk, bread and butter and a bottle of wine. We arrived on the day of the Queens funeral so this was very appreciated. The Cottage was great for us and also the secure garden for our dogs. We look forward to returning and highly recommend Thank you for a great stay Jo, Rob, Jenny and the dogs Thomas and Harvey

Beautiful cottage by the coast, wonderful!
Wayside Cottage is lovely, beautifully decorated and so comfortable and homely, very well equipped with everything you could need for your stay. The owner has thought of everything!

Idyllic vacation in my favorite town
Our stay at the beautiful Wayside Cottage could not have been enjoyable. We spent two weeks there summer '22 after having to cancel in spring '20... and the wait was more than worth it! The owners were wonderful throughout and the property more than lives up to its online billing - compact (to be expected) and a treasure of a place with the amount of room, comfort, and obvious care inside. The location is great for all the family - idyllic St Osyth and its surroundings, the quayside next door, and the watersports down the hill - we had many great hours at all of these places this trip. Perfect, thank you!

A simply stunning, clean well kept cottage and fantastic owner.
The reason I gave online accuracy 4 stars is because while the pictures are fabulous, they do not express how wonderful and pristine and homely Wayside Cottage actually is in the flesh. It’s well equipped, cosy, and Suzanne is thoughtful, generous and all round great property owner.

Beautiful cottage
Wayside cottage was fully equipped with everything that you could ask for. A lovely welcome pack awaited us. beautiful finishing touches as in bath robes toothbrushes and toiletries. Impeccably clean. Beds lovely and comfy. Garden was nice and safe for my dog. especially liked listening to the turkeys gobbling! In a good location a short walk into St Osyth with a selection of shops and pubs. Bus stop straight outside the house . We would definitely book again. Many Thanks to the hosts for a very enjoyable stay.

2 week rental, not holiday
This is a lovely cottage, but lots of busy traffic which obviously the owners have no control over. But if just using the cottage as a holiday base this should not cause any inconvenience.

Well presented dog friendly cottage
Stayed here for 3 nights July 2021 and we were really impressed with Wayside Cottage. Spotlessly clean, nicely decorated and presented. The attention to detail was exceptional; milk, bread, orange juice, butter, wine and more in the kitchen. New toothbrushes and luxury toiletries in the bathroom. Netflix and smart TV to keep us entertained. A lovely, private sunny/ shady garden which was safe for our dog to wander in and lovely for us to sit and enjoy. Comfortable sofas! We’ve stayed in cottages in the last with really small uncomfortable sofas so this was a treat. Bed was great too. We enjoyed exploring the local area including walks on the doorstep. Great communications from the owner Suzanne. We’ll happily recommend the cottage and hope we might return one day. Thanks for making our stay so enjoyable!

Family Holiday
The cottage was immaculate when we arrived and the welcome pack of bread, milk etc was very welcome. Suzanne had very kindly left some toys out for my Granddaughter which she loved. The cottage garden is lovely and secluded and St Osyth is in a great location. The lake is literally on the doorstep and we had great fun trying out the Aqua Park and Paddle Boarding. There are also many great beaches close by and Colchester Zoo is only a short drive away. The hosts were extremely friendly and helpful and quick to respond. All in all a great holiday.

50th birthday celebration weekend
A lovely cosy clean cottage & secluded garden great for our dog.The Owners left toiletries & food essentials bread,butter, milk,tea, coffee ,juice & wine even though we stayed just 2 nights which was so welcoming . lovely village location close to curve water sports.Great walks & a short drive to the beach.We all had a great weekend our kids didn't want to leave and we would definitely stay again.

Just perfect!
Couldn't have asked for anymore in a cottage! The property was spotless when we arrived, yet still felt homely right away. So many 'extras' included like breakfast foods, milk, condiments, toiletries, books and toys! The owners are so friendly and helpful, they provided advice and recommended things around the area for the children. Will definitely be staying again!

Absolutely brilliant!
This cottage must be one of the best value properties we have ever booked! Quaint and immaculately clean with a lovely cosy feel, the cottage is well placed and a really good base for getting around the area. Communication with the owners was brilliant and the complimentary food treats and toiletries they left for us were wonderful and welcome. I can not recommend this property more highly for the cost! Exceptional!

Great cottage
Communication from the owners is very good from the start and all way through. Very clean and comfortable. Large garden that's not overlooked. Few minutes into town.beds all comfortable. Only stayed 2 nights but still got welcome pack with wine . Can't find fault.

St Osyth Short Break With Dog
The cottage was comfortable and well equipped to a high standard. The owner provided grocery essentials such as bread, butter, juice and milk plus condiments, toiletries, a bottle of wine and even biscuits for our dog. The only negative for us was the noise from the road during the night. We knew the cottage was directly on a road but didn’t realise just how busy it would be as it the only road to Point Clear. We decided to move into the back bedroom and make up the day bed which was better. The owner has taken this on board and is addressing possible issues with the bedroom window. The garden was nice to sit in when we were not out and about. The owner was easily contactable and was always willing to help.

Thank you for your lovely review Denise. We appreciate all feedback and have acted on your comments. All of the windows of the cottage were replaced last year with new double glazed windows and on this occasion the sash window in the main bedroom at the front of the property was not completely closed and sealed correctly, this has now been addressed. Also we have purchased thermal curtains with an element of sound absorption for this room, the lounge and also to cover the inside of the front door. These curtains will be fitted this weekend and we hope this will make our guests feel more comfortable through the winter. Thank you for helping us to enhance our product and also for leaving the cottage so clean and tidy.

Fantastic characterful cottage which is a real home from home
Wayside cottage is simply wonderful. It is full of character and real care has been taken with every little detail. Suzanne was friendly making the check in and all communication a pleasure. The garden is perfect for a family with a dog and it is great to have a side entrance rather than only a front door. Everything in the cottage is to a very high standard ; well-equipped kitchen, plush carpets, lovely bathroom with a rain shower, gorgeous furnishings throughout, tv with Netflix (great for teenagers) and some many thoughtful details (eg bath robes, spare toothbrushes, high end toiletries, wine and breakfast items). I cannot praise Wayside Cottage and Suzanne highly enough. Our family had a relaxing stay and didn't want to leave! This is a real gem.

Was für ein Fund! Cottage in toller Lage, perfekt für viele schöne Ausflüge. Zuhause aber auch wunderbar mit herrlichem Garten und toller Ausstattung. Dazu noch herzliche Vermieter und ein zauberhaftes Dörfchen. Wir kommen wieder!

Typisch Englisch mit romantischem Garten
Das Haus ist geschmackvoll eingerichtet, alt und modern (Bad und Küche) gelungen verbunden. Es war alles vorhanden, was man braucht und für das erste Frühstück und den Wein am Ankunftsabend war gesorgt. Das fanden wir großartig.
