This was our first time to stay at Maria’s Kan Kin. If you’re looking for a peaceful place on the island with serene views, private beach access, a delicious breakfast included and such a friendly, helpful staff this place is amazing! Lily greeted us at check-in and made us feel so welcome. Max waited on us at Loretta‘s for multiple meals. He offered suggestions and attentive service. The beach was clean and offered kayaks and a great place to snorkel. You need to take a taxi from the ferry and Lily let us know that it should cost around 150 pesos. We sat and visited with Lily while we waited for our taxi (which she called for us) after check-out. We were only at Maria’s for two days so we didn’t get to experience everything they had to offer so we will definitely be back!

We LOVE this property. The restaurant, food, the rooms are nice and cold and simple. Lilly the manager is awesome! Always helpful and kind and accommodating. The rooms are cold, cozy, the property is lush and beautiful and they maintain the beach and pool. It's one of our fav places to stay. We like to support Mexican owned businesses when we visit. I would suggest one majorly important thing. While we love love this property the beds are very firm and not as plush and restful. They should consider updating the mattresses. I know FIFA is a big thing right now with the world cup, but they shut the music off at the restauarant and blaired it so loud to the beach that all of us that were resting and relaxing had to hear it for HOURS every day. It's okay to play them of course and it was a huge draw for them however it was not for all the visitors and guests. I had my own speaker and played it and everyone NOT INTO FIFA thanked me and agreed that it was not enjoyable. Lilly understood and tried her best. We will be back!

Great hotel, nice island

This is a super little hotel. Only nine rooms and has its own private beach which is a real treat. The manager Lilly was absolutely lovely and was on hand for any questions or help. It’s a little way out of the town but there is a really nice bar/restaurant called Kinha two minutes walk away and it’s only ten minutes into the centre in a cab. Highly recommended.

We stayed at Maria's 1/13 thru 1/20. We asked for room 10, as it is the one right on the beach. The resort is very quaint and quiet. It has a nice sandy beach with decent snorkeling. We enjoyed free breakfast next door at Kin Ha day club, and spent time eating and drinking there too. Lilly the hotel manager is absolutely the best! She really is catering to every need! If you are looking for a quite boutique hotel experience, this us the place for you.

The beach was amazing! The infinity pool was great also! It’s a quiet location and close to a great restaurant for our Free breakfast! Rooms were ok (just old cement, not sealed or able to clean well-bathroom especially) but having air conditioning was a bonus! The BEST part of this property is Lily the manager! She checked on us many times and helped me Immensely when I forgot my passport in the closet in the room! I appreciate her helpfulness and it saved me an hour of time. I recommend for a peaceful stay away from the tourist area!

We stayed here during the holidays and highly recommend for anyone looking for a nice getaway. Having access directly to the beach is amazing, we spent the whole day on the cabana and just went upstairs to our rooms after! Very quiet and felt safe. Special shout out Lilly who made our stay that much more exceptional. The only thing I would mention as a tiny tiny con would be its location being further away from dining options, but it was easy to get a taxi (and Lily was very helpful with this). But that’s the trade off for someplace quiet and serene!

Fantastic Trip

We had the best time at Maria's Kan-Kin. We are so happy with our decision to stay here. I had done a lot of research. There were a lot of suggestions to stay at the north end, but we were super happy with staying on the south end. This boutique motel is so peaceful and located right on the beach. The beach is beautiful, the water is amazing, and the pier gives the best views!! Lily, the manager, made the experience the best we could have asked for. She is so helpful and attentive. She feels like family before you even arrive. She is like having your own personal concierge, which she does not have to do. She helped us with so many things from booking our trip to Contoy, finding us a golf cart when they were booked up all over the island, to scheduling a cab back to the ferry. She is truly fantastic and such an asset to Maria's. Also, a wonderful perk is having breakfast included next door at the Kan Kin beach club. Large menu to choose from with a stunning view. Also, plenty of entertainment close to Maria's such as ZaZa Beach Club, Mayan Monkey, the Joint. Fantastic coffee bus at the top of the hill. We went to Puta Sur every morning for the most amazing sunrises. We can't wait to return!!

4/10 Poor

Disliked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
The property has a garden feel. Unfortunately our room didn’t have much privacy, as you’d see everyone who walked by if the blinds were open. The room was spacious and had mini fridge which was nice. Obviously we’re in Mexico and these things happen given the climate and surrounding but it was unsettling paired with the droppings behind our bed. These things could’ve easily been prevented with a more thorough deep cleaning. The private beach property was nice however there were 2 times that we were relaxing on the beach and a worker from the restaurant came over and rudely said “this private beach is only for hotel guests”. We were very confused because we were wearing the wristbands given to us at checkin. We told him we were staying there and he acted skeptical and walked away, only to do the exact same thing the next day while we were watching the sunset. This left a bad taste in mouths and didn’t help create a comfortable environment at our own hotel.

First the good: Location. The bad: Everything else. We expect the items they advertise on Expedia to be accurate. First, no working TV on our room, no hot water in the sink, VERY limited hot water in shower. We did without for the first 2 nights until we were moved to another room. Next, staff and their attitude. Since advertising a private beach, they had lounge chairs, umbrellas, etc. on the beach. The 1st day was fine with it all set up. The 2nd day, they had been removed the night before, and were not available. We asked the hotel manager to have someone set it up. Her response, “The restaurant staff takes care of that.” We looked for anyone in the restaurant staff to take care of it. All we could find was a bartender. When asked if someone could set up the chairs, he gave what must be a standard answer because we heard it a lot, “Ten minutes.” Another person asked the bartender if he could do it, “No, I’m just the bartender.” Next question was “Who and where is the person who will do it in ten minutes?” His answer, “No hablo inglés.“ So much for the staff. The electricity went out twice. The 1st time in the middle of the night for a few hours - no big deal. However, on our next to last day, it went out again. At first for the entire hotel. They partially restored it, but our room remained out, and dark for the rest of our stay. No one would have enjoyed our stay. We should receive compensation from Expedia for their advertising such a dreadfully run facility.

We just completed our 5-day stay at Maria's Kan Kin in Isla Mujeres, and it was wonderful. This is a beautiful, quiet boutique hotel with amazing breakfasts included in the room rate. We enjoyed lunch and dinner at the hotel every day. While the food was a little pricey, it was absolutely delicious, so we didn't mind paying for the quality and experience. Teresa at the front desk and her assistant were exceptionally kind, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. The restaurant staff was also outstanding and provided excellent service. The beach is gorgeous, although it is on the smaller side. If you're considering staying here, keep in mind that this is a romantic, charming boutique hotel rather than an all-inclusive resort with numerous activities and entertainment options. If you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing getaway with great food and personalized service, Maria's Kan Kin is an excellent choice.
