Located to the south of central Dublin, in the Terenure area of the city, Bushy Park is a huge open space made up of sporting facilities, woodland areas and open playing fields. Hotels in the area range from luxurious five star establishments to welcoming guesthouses and affordable B&Bs. The perfect choice for holidaymakers who want to enjoy a bit of fresh air and an authentic Dublin neighbourhood during their stay, Bushy Park will make a great base for your trip to Dublin.
Bushy Park started life as the property of Arthur Bushe, the Secretary to the Revenue Commissioners. In 1700, he built a house on the land that would become the park, with his descendants selling it in 1772 and changing the name from Bushe House to Bushy Park.
Covering 51 acres of woodland, playing fields and rivers, the park boasts a range of leisure facilities including tennis courts, football pitches and skateboarding areas. A popular weekend destination for local families and Dubliners looking to relax and enjoy some fresh air, the park and the area around it make a great alternative base for visitors to Dublin to explore.
As the park is located in a largely residential area most of the hotels close to Bushy Park are situated to the north-east, towards the city centre. Holidaymakers will find a fantastic choice of establishments, with hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs to suit all tastes and budgets.
As well as being just a short drive or bus journey from the park, these hotels provide easy access to the city centre and all of the attractions and sights it has to offer.
Thanks to the park’s location on the edge of the city, it’s ideal for visitors who want to get out and explore the Irish countryside and enjoy a range of outdoor pursuits.
Several golf courses are within walking distance of the park, with even more just a short drive or taxi ride away. Holidaymakers who want to see even more of Ireland’s stunning countryside will find lots to discover just outside of the city with beautiful green hills, lush valleys and traditional villages to explore.
Visitors staying in hotels close Bushy Park will also find it easy to get into the centre of Dublin with bus routes connecting the area to the centre of the city. Popular Dublin attractions include the Guinness Storehouse, the National Museum of Ireland, Phoenix Park and Dublin Castle.
Close to both the city centre and the beautiful surrounding countryside, Bushy Park is a great area for families, couples and groups looking for a city break with a difference.
