"Great location...small and very attentive staff"
Two day London break and found The Rathbone to be ideal for most attractions. Hotel is well maintained and the room was spotless... Did smile when told there was a free copy of the Times and two bottles of water complementary in the room...however, we were charged almost £3 service charge to drink a bottle of beer in the bar!

"Great place!"
A great place to stay and close to many London attractions. Goodge St tube is about a 5 min walk away. The hotel is in a very quiet location and although on a bus route, we didn't hear a thing. We had continental breakfast included in our room rate but paid slightly more for the cooked breakfast which was a huge plateful and delicious! The dining staff were very attentive and friendly. We will definitely be returning for our next stay in London.

"Close to Euston and King's Cross St. Pancras"
The hotel is close to two major stations, whether overground or underground. It's close to the eateries near there, and the post office isn't that far. If you were to use the public transportation, it's very handy but if you're walking into London Central, it's a hike! The hotel's curb appeal was very impressive. The lobby was alright. But then the parts that matter left a bit lacking. The one elevator was an "okay" speed, the halls were small, and the rooms were really tight. There wasn't that much storage room for clothes and such. I was able to sleep on the bed, but barely. The WI-FI was decent, and the room was clean. I give the biggest satisfaction for the housekeeping, as they kept up with my requests I left in the room. The biggest thing I didn't like about it was the flaming hot towel rack -- I love it that it keeps the towels warm, hate it that it's nearly scalding when you accidentally brush it when you're on the loo. Another would be that there's absolutely no separation between the shower and the tile in front of the loo, so water does get everywhere because of the (impressively strong) water pressure of the shower. The staff was alright up until the end. I had asked the receptionist if the post office was opened and she had said yes, so I left my luggage at the front desk so I can mail some postcards only to see that it was closed. It's not that it's her fault that it was closed, but she shouldn't've confirmed that it was open if it was an unknown.

"Good location, cheap"
This hotel is in a great location for the price that you pay per night. However, the facilities aren't great (poor condition) and the walls are so thin that you can hear what your neighbours are doing (not pleasant). When I was leaving I had to climb over several bags of laundry, with my suitcase, that were blocking the door. There is a notice in the room asking you not to leave any electronic equipment in the room or it may disappear. This made me feel very unsafe.

"Cheap (with offer), basic but cheerful and central"
An ok en-suite room, the built-in shower/toilet unit was quite compact but did the job. Very good price with the offer at the time. Breakfast was edible - a very basic continental, no ham/cheese just jam/marmalade or peanut butter, 5 choices of cereals, tea/coffee, juice, fruit, mini yoghurt and possible a croissant. Room service daily, sometimes twice a day. There were no 'do not disturb' door signs (if doing night-shift/out late).

Booked this place mostly for the location but the room was a pleasant surprise. Don't expect any frills but it's clean, safe and friendly. Makes for the perfect place to crash after a long day of exploring London.

Pocket Guide: London Bloomsbury Independent Hotels

The fashionable residential district of Bloomsbury in central London, dotted with hushed Georgian garden squares, has drawn famous writers and philosophers through the centuries. Virginia Woolf and the Bloomsbury Set redefined the 20th-century novel here, and being the seat of the British Library and the British Museum, it was also where Charles Darwin formulated his historic theory of evolution.
