Budget hotel room at 5 star price

Posted 21-Mar-2017
Pros: Convenient for hotel conferences and NEC
Cons: Rooms - tired and in need of maintenance.
Location: NEC - easy to access.
Conference hotel which has a good conference centre but the bedroom was a standard size with a small bathroom in need of maintenance - loose taps and poor toilet flush. Budget hotel would have given the same facilities at a much better price.

I felt the room was very, very over priced for what it was. I had to chase up a member of bar staff 3 time to get my change. The rest of the staff very nice and frendly.

Disappointing staff attitude.

Posted 10-Mar-2017
Pros: location
Cons: Get
Location: Near the NEC but so are a lot of other hotels.
The hotel is what it is, not a patch on the USA Hiltons but is summed up in one small incident. I was at Crufts and wanted to have a shower. The shower in my room didn't work and this caused a certain amount of inconvenience for me. When I reported to reception the person just said. Thank you for reporting it. No word of apology or small token of compensation. I had too much to do to make a formal complaint. Can you imagine that happening in the USA. I actually din't want any compensation, just somebody to acknowledge that I had been inconvenienced and to show a small amount of concern, The other thing which was apparent from this person was the look of distaste on her face when I mentioned to her that this was a unique event with so many dogs in the hotel. The general attitude from this person was professional but unhelpful. To put it simply. Her 'attitude was showing'. not what you pay this sort of money for. It also looks like the place has very clunky IT systems. Check in queues were very long whilst the reception staff were switching between different screens and waiting for the system to respond.

Very convenient to NEC

Posted 27-Feb-2017
Nothing spectacular about room. Food at bar was nice. Buffet dinner was only fairly moderate. Didn't try a la carte but quite expensive to look at. Wine prices also very expensive. Breakfast was nice with plenty of choice. Positive thing was convenience to the NEC - less than 10 minutes walk.

Great 24 hour service

Posted 25-Feb-2017
The Hilton Metropole is HUGE! We stay in a 5* hotel in Newport quite a lot but the lobby, lounge and service doesn't have a patch on the Hilton Metropole. The room we stayed in felt spacious. The bathroom was on the small side and lacked a bit of luxury but was clean and well equipped with towels and toiletries. The pool in the health club was wonderfully warm. The changing rooms were a little basic but functional. The lounge was a lovely place to sit and relax and the food was lovely (nice big portions too). Room service was good value, also had big portions and was served hot (amazing as the hotel is SO big). We would definitely stay again.

Businesslike, and comfortable.

Pros: I've said it all.
Cons: See above.
Location: C'mon, silly question. NEC. Geddit?
Poor range of TV channels. These days you should expect more than 17... Such a pity that one thing wrong like this (and easily rectifiable) should spoil the impression created by all the good aspects of the hotel. The other grim aspect is the exorbitant car parking cost. For residents it should be free. Bury the cost in the room rate - but no, hang on, our prices would not then be competitive enough...lets charge them £12 per night. Other than the TV and the car park, its a fine place.
