Chesford Grange Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"We stayed in a family room for one night which was perfect for us; two good size double beds and a big bathroom both of which were very clean. The bar and restaurant were very pleasant, the staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was good! There was a wide selection of food and drink available at breakfast. We weren’t there long enough to use the pool and spa unfortunately but a great extra to have!"

"Room was good overall and clean. Few cosmetic improvements would make it excellent, examples; minor dents and marks on walls, curtain rail was 2 inches lower at one end from other, only 2 pillows on bed in a double room, had to ask reception for 2 more (which were promptly provided but fairly flat and little stuffing), everything else in room was very good (TV, wardrobes, electric sockets, bedside lights, pedestal fan, seating). Staff on first day we stayed were bit reserved but helpful when needed, on second day the young lady on duty was extremely helpful and engaging with guests. At breakfast she asked my wife if poached or fried eggs were preferable to the scrambled on the servery. Breakfast was very good, lots of choice, minor observation was the jam and marmalade on offer, next to toaster, were in glass jars with no label's so not sure what it was. Overall this hotel is good value for the price, it has no serious failings, the staff are very good and we will definitely stay again and! if the minor issues highlighted in this review were addressed it would get an excellent rating."

"Interesting spot. It’s a pub with a hotel attached, and the pub is somewhere between an upmarket Wetherspoons and a Yates’s Wine Lodge. That’s meant positively, by the way! The hotel has over 50 rooms and could probably best be described as a little tired, but not in a particularly harsh way. Everything was perfectly clean and tidy, and the rooms were functional and absolutely fine for what we needed. One word of warning: avoid a street-facing room if you can. There are two pelican crossings outside, both of which beep away all night. One of our guys had one of those rooms and eventually gave up and asked to be moved. I suspect the pelicans were having a better night's sleep than he was. Breakfast is loosely described as continental. Think half a litre of orange juice and some toast, with a bit of a scrum involved. Again, though, it did the job. And that's really the key to this place: value. We were working at Edgbaston and this was one of the closest hotels to the venue. Over the dates we stayed, it was genuinely around a third of the price of a Premier Inn. At that price, you really couldn’t fault it. The pub itself is perfectly fine and actually quite quirky, with lots of different areas, decent beer and some very interesting characters. There’s also a particularly good Indian restaurant genuinely next door, which is BYO. Even better, there’s a Morrisons directly opposite the pub. So the process is simple: nip into Morrisons, buy your beer, then head next door for a"

"No issues with the room or the cleanliness, I reported that the iron in my room was not working, the staff member sent to replace it was not courteous, just handed me the replacement. Obviously no training in hospitality."
The Wood Norton

"My room was a Standard Room and in the “Courtyard” which is a walk along the side of the main property (no umbrella supplied if raining) and not so suitable for a single lady traveller if arriving back late at night. Bed was very comfortable and the first night I slept well, the second evening was noisy as it appears the room was next to a bottle bank. I was then woken at 06.15 by a “delivery” being made. I did mention the above to Reception but was sadly told “you booked a standard room” so I guess this means if you don’t book the higher level rooms, you’re not entitled to a good nights sleep. This disappoints me greatly. I also attempted to move to another room on arrival due to the out lying room but was told there were none available, I’m guessing due to the price point I entered with. The food was excellent, and the waiting staff good. The cleanliness in my room and bathroom was good too."
