The rooms are not particularly clean and our room was above the smoking area which was very noisy, unfortunately not being able to sleep until gone midnight.

Overall a nice hotel for a short stay.

The Red Lion is a nice little hotel in Atherstone where myself and a number of others chose to stay when attending a wedding at nearby Mythe Barn. It has nice general facilities and the staff were friendly and helpful whenever I spoke to them. With its own small restaurant and bar areas and lovely conservatory area. It is a very nice pleasant place to enjoy a drink and bite to eat. As well as a good standard continental and full English breakfast if you've chosen to have this option. As for my room (a single occupancy room) it was nice and clean and had its own en suite with toilet/shower, good sized wardrobe, tv, kettle with standard tea/coffe sachays. All the things you'd expect. Sadly the main light and mirror light in the toilet did not work. Meaning I had to leave the door open to allow the main room light to shine in for visibility. I found the bed extremely hard for my liking and the pillows very thin. Making it hard to get to sleep. However as it was only a one night stay and merely needing it for a few hours sleep after the wedding I chose not to complain about this. I also realise these things are personal preference as well. However others who had stayed did say they had nice soft mattresses and good plump pillows. Overall the Red Lion is a nice little village hotel with friendly staff and clean interior/basic facilities and was fine for my one night stay. Had I been here longer I would have requested a change to a comfier bed/room.

Could be very good

Posted 23-Aug-2017
Pros: Central, historic.
Cons: Bed. Education of housekeepers.
Location: Good restaurants and bars.. nice independent shops.
Mattress needed replacement, very old and saggy. Woken at 8.10 am by housekeeping, checkout was 11-00am! Not good as we had been out with friends the previous evening and were looking forward to a lie-in.

Reasonable Stay

Posted 25-Jul-2017 on Hotels
Evening meal good and value for money. Breakfast, over priced and a bit plastic but of plenty choice. Room OK but a bit dated, bed not too bad, but attention needs to be given to the pillows. Over all reasonably good value for money.
