"A lovely hotel in a lovely location. Very quiet, friendly host and staff in the restaurant. The bed was soooo comfortable,"

"Great old English inn. Very friendly staff, good food and beers. Room was very comfortable and breakfast was excellent."

"The room and cottage were great. Very peaceful location to stay and explore the nearby area, including Penrith"

"A very warm and genuine welcome on arrival. The room was perfectly adequate for my needs, nice double bed with views over the rooftops of the historic town centre and over to the moors. Delicious cooked-to-order breakfast."

"Excellent place, great location and superb amenities."

"Lovely place, perfect for groups. Pool table was a hit. Only negative was the couches in the main room were a bit old and had the arm rest cushion had gone so it was just wood. Needs replacing. But that’s only minor."

"Beautiful room, bathtub to soak my tired legs, great food and friendly staff. Couldn't recommend anymore if I tried as it's definitely the best place in the town."

"Set in gorgeous surroundings, the field barn has everything you need for a rural retreat. "The ground floor apartment could have been cleaner and better equipped! The parking was tight, the upstairs neighbours were a bit noisy. The bed was comfy but would have been better if it was bigger as the rooms are quite spacious! Pet friendly."

"It was our second time there, we loved the room, staff and dinner felt very relaxing"

"Stayed during owners transition, that's why the kitchen served only breakfast and it was amazing! The same helpful staff. Short business stay, I visit a lot of hotels and I do appreciate smaller ones. Room had a nice design, comfortable bed and modern bathroom, all very clean and well kept."

"We had a lovely stay at the Old Schoolhouse. Our room and bathroom were spacious. Our hosts had homemade treats for us each day (an oatmeal raisin cookie our first day and a piece of spice cake the next). Our breakfast was at a large table with the other guests. We loved talking to them, several of whom were walking the length of Hadrian's wall. The breakfast itself was delicious and generous. We would absolutely stay here again."
