Great hotel in perfect location for all tours, sightseeing etc. I agree with many others that it can get a little noisy on a weekend but unless you are a very light sleeper don't let that bother you. Staff are very friendly and happy to help with booking tours, restaurants though eating at the hotel was very nice so worth a try. We upgraded to a junior suite which wasn't much more than the standard room and from what I picked up from other guests we did the right thing as our room was quite spacious and it was nice to have a leather corner sofa to chill out on instead of just the bed.
Iceland is a stunning place and this hotel is tucked away nicely so as a base to do the tours we booked which was the northern lights by boat ( dress warm! ), a super jeep golden circle day ( awesome, especially glacier part ) and Blue Lagoon en route back to the airport. Don't let the rumour about high prices put you off, if you can stomach London rates then you will be fine and this as with many other hotels / bars, do a happy hour from 5-7pm every day with a beer at about £2.50. If you wanted to avoid the noise issue then book one of the other Centerhotel's in the town which were a little more remote but still within walking distance of the sights. Cant recommend the place or hotel too highly, only had 3 days there which is maybe a little too short but will definitely be back....now go and book up!!!
"Comfortable and friendly hotel centrally-placed."
Perfect location for a short break. Allowed quick access to centre so we could maximise our time enjoying the sites. We had wondered about hiring a car, but between the hotel's central location, Flybus and Reykjavik Excursions, it wasn't necessary! Very friendly and helpful staff. Fabulous, clean, spacious double-aspect Superior Room. Wonderful stay!

This gracious 1930s hotel, restored to its original Art Deco style in 2006, is located in the center of Reykjavik, 100 meters …More
Fabulous hotel, breakfast plentiful (at extra cost) a good start to busy days. Most museums, restuarants and shops within easy walking distance. Tours were bookable from reception, pick ups from the hotel in minibuses as road not suitable for big coaches. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, who were always friendly and helpful.

Only a 2 minute walk from Laugarvegur and very centrally located. Rooms are small by North American standards but very efficiently laid out. Ours had a stunning view of the harbor and fjords beyond. Morning breakfast was great, plenty of variety and the restaurant had the same great view. Hotel also had a fine spa facility with a hot jacuzzi, steam bath and sauna. Service was excellent, we were treated very well by every one. Parking was limited though...street parking is also readily available but not free. Wifi signal was strong through entire building. Would definitely stay here again.
Immaculate hotel. We stayed in an executive room on the 9th floor which was very clean, light, spacious, and had magnificent views. The bed was very comfy.
For such a nice hotel the drinks were very reasonable. A 1/2 litre of beer only a little more than UK prices. The reception was staffed with very friendly knowledgeable staff. Before booking a trip to Northern Lights check with them. The lights are not seen every night and before you waste your money and time check with them. They will know whether you have a chance of seeing, or not in our case (wish we knew this before booking trip in UK). In fact you save nothing by pre booking trips before you go.
The hotel is 15/20 min walk from main street. Which for us was fine. It's nice to walk and explore. Iceland feels very safe, For veggies please try "Glo" which is only 5 mins from hotel near the Hilton. Lovely yummy healthy vegetarian concept.
The only downside was that the breakfast was very very busy on Sunday morning. Guess everyone at the hotel arrived at 9.30. Maybe have an earlier breakfast on Sunday. The food however was very tasty.
All in all everything about the hotel was excellent.
Having stayed at numerous hotels ( some much more expensive!) I have never experienced a hotel staff, without exception, who went out out their way to not only make me feel special but but also went out of their way to assist me in recovering my luggage temporarily lost by the airline, including making several phone calls and volunteering to go pick it up When the airline (IcelandAir) refused to deliver it the hotel as promised.
