“Short but Sweet”

Picked this hotel based on reviews from Trip Advisor, and everyone on there was correct! Nice hotel in central Reykjavik. Due to our delayed plane from London we didn't arrive till 2:30 am and had to leave early. WIsh we could've stayed longer. Great room, very clean, a little on the small side but loved it! Hope to journey back to Hotel Reykjavik Centrum one day!

Blue Lagoon was excellent...and all we had time for.

“A really friendly and comfortable hotel, right in the centre of Reykjavik”

This hotel is located in the very centre of Reykjavik and is no more than a 15 minute walk from all the central visitor sites. It is modern and very comfortable. All the staff were really friendly and helpful, advising us on where best to go etc. we will stay there again when we return to Reykjavik!!

“Initimacy and High Quality Service”

Hotel Reykjavik Centrum offers an intimate environment in which patrons receive personal attention to any need be it to reserve a tour at the front desk, arrange for or confirm airport transportation, serving meals in the dining room, having a drink or snack in the coffee shop, and attend to personal requests for special concessions in your hotel room. Personal attention is matched by high quality of food, comfortable and esthetically pleasing furniture in rooms as well as in collectively used facilities. Close proximity to a town square, walking distance to the harbour, museums, shopping area, restaurants, concert hall and university are bonuses! This was my first visit to Iceland and it will not be my last. My next trip will include staying at the Centrum while in Reykjavik.

Area recommendations
Taking tours is a good way to be oriented to Iceland. On the tours you learn about Icelandic culture, geological history, political economy, language and industry. Sample tours: the Golden Circle, City Tour, Blue Lagoon Tour. Taking these tours leaves one with the knowledge and desire to prioritize and plan for the next vacation in Iceland.
What to pack
Pack minimally. There are no dramatic changes in temperature. Rain gear, sweaters, jeans and a bathing suit are musts!
Shopping
A rare country which has an abundance of locally made souvenirs - due in large part to the local sheep and woolen industries. Items are expensive but the quality is very high.
Dining
Expect to pay a lot for food in restaurants or at the grocery store. Plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit available - and of course, superb fish and seafood.
Events and shows
Airwaves in October!!! An annual music event where musicians showcase their talents at many venues. The most challenging aspect was to select artists and venues as there were so many going on at once.

“Good central location but very small rooms”

The location is very good, very close to the central squares - but in such a compact city, this isn't too hard! The hotel has very small rooms and extremely small bathrooms, they have clearly squeezed as many rooms as possible to maximise on money-making but a little bit more space would be appreciated! The bathroom was so small you could stand in the shower at the same time as cleaning your teeth in the bathroom mirror! Functional and fine for just one night but there are better hotels in Reykjavik for a similar price (try Reykjavik Residence).

“Great location but small rooms”

Great location beside a great restaurant (Fish Market), clean but small rooms, desk staff seemed disinterested upon our arrival (offered no help w/ our many bags at 1am in the morning and kids in tow).

“Beautiful hotel, beautiful city”

We stayed in Reykjavik for four nights and had a delightful stay at the Centrum. If I were to try hard to find fault: I was irked by having to pay £10 per day for wifi access. The access was smooth and problem-free, however. We had paid for a deluxe room and loved the space we had, particularly since we seemed to have a 20 foot turret in one corner. Just a shower but a very efficient one and there’s endless hot water there, of course. The building itself is quite starkly beautiful and incredibly central. We had a grand top floor view over Austurvöllur, with the Settlement Exhibition right underneath us. We stayed Sunday to Thursday, so I don’t know whether there would be much disturbance from the all night partying in that quieter part of town. As it was, we slept with our window ajar. We bought odds and ends from a couple of local supermarkets and nobody seemed to mind that we filled the minibar with several varieties of skyr every day. We had breakfast in the hotel one morning before a trip out of town and that was expensive but there was ample choice from the buffet. We didn’t eat there in the evening but there were several fine restaurants nearby. Everything in Reykjavik is expensive, apart from hot running water and their geothermal power, but we had anticipated that. We seldom used cash since the Icelanders seem to prefer plastic for even the smallest transactions and don’t expect tips. We’ve traveled a lot over the years and seldom enjoyed a short trip so much.

Getting around
Everything in Reykjavik was within easy walking distance. We did only the standard tours that everyone does: round the ‘Golden Circle’ which was great and out to the Blue Lagoon which was exceptional. We used Reykjavik Excursions for both trips and were very happy. Our guide even performed some beautiful plainsong for us in the church at Skalholt, as we looked about the place. That was unexpected and actually quite moving. We also used their Flybus+ service for transfer from and to the airport and that too was hassle-free.
Dining
On Valentine's Day, we ate at Laekjerbrekka which was perhaps overpriced. The service was pleasant but very slow. The food was good. My partner had the 'lobster' feast (we'd call it langoustine in the UK) and I ate half of that. It was excellent. I had the lamb and was a bit disappointed, particularly as it was pretty much rare rather than medium. My partner finished it off with relish, however. It's a lovely space to eat in. We sought out Icelandic Fish and Chips down by the docks the next night where there was great atmosphere, great service, and smashing food. More reasonably priced there too. I'm a Scot so I know a good 'fish supper' too. Best of all was our treat on the last night. 'The Fish Market' is immediately next door to the hotel and quite exceptional! Excellent atmosphere and service, amazing Tasting Menu, very expensive but absolutely worth it! In the mornings we usually stopped off at the fine Café Paris, opposite the Alþingi, for a huge breakfast at half the price of the hotel buffet.

“Hope to go back!”

Hotel was conveniently located & staff was great. We ate in the dinning room one night & the service was slow & our food, though tasty, was barely warm. They did comp our meal which was not expected but appreciated. Overall stay gets a 4!

Area recommendations
We loved the old part of town which had numerous restaurants, shops and museums, all within walking distance.
Must see
Don't miss swimming in the Blue Lagoon. It is a lovely 45 min. bus ride from the city and so unique. We went in Feb. when flights & hotels were inexpensive but food and alcohol were very expensive! I expect this is true all of the time.

“Very good--would stay again”

The hotel staff was very nice--let us check into our room at 7 a.m. when we arrived from the states even though check in wasn't until later. They were very helpful in recommending resturants (we ate in the bar for dinner one night and it was delicious). Great location--right int he center of the city. Rooms were fine--small, clean, warm, with hot water. We were very pleased with the hotel for the price. Would stay again if we come back during the summer to see the whales and puffins.

“We'd recommend the Reykjavik Centrum and hope to stay again. I chose wisely!”

The hotel is very central and although we'd booked a transfer from the bus station, it was easily walkable. The trips with Gray Line leave at 9.00am from round the corner but hotel pick up is 8.30am so grab an extra 20 minutes in bed and walk it! The whale-watching departure is also just 5 minutes' walk away too. The hotel is cosy and clean. Lots of lovely hot water! Good room lighting and Sky News plus a clock radio. The brasserie, Uppsalir, is good value (around £10 a head for a amin course plus beer?) although the food is mainly variations on burger & chips. We had one special meal in the pricey restaurant which was very good but with wine (one bottle) it came to over £100 for the two of us - one 2 course and one 3 course (Yes - I couldn't resist the amazing "Chocolate 6 ways"). It's one of the top 10 restaurants in Iceland but there can't be so very many of them in this sparcely populated country. We'd definitely choose this hotel again. It's superbly situated with everything within walking distance. It was far too cold to walk for more than a few minutes though in late November! Remember to put on a hat and gloves BEFORE stepping outside! The staff were ultra-efficient, friendly but not intrusively so. There are coffee shops nearby and a few other restaurants too but we didn't get to try these. There's an ATM a few paces away.

Area recommendations
The city is small and compact so you can walk around the areas of interest easily from this hotel. There's next to no traffic compared to any other capital city I've been to so you'll have no worries about congestion! It feels very safe.
