Bright Lights: 5 Vegas Hotels with Show-Stopping Neon Signs

“Fantastic multi-coloured illuminations shining brightly against the dark desert sky have long been a symbol of Las Vegas. From the beginning, neon lights have been used to advertise the hotels and casinos downtown and all along the legendary strip. As times have changed many have disappeared, but at these five hotels the old Las Vegas spirit shines on through their neon signs.

Circus Circus Hotel, Casino & Theme Park
—————————————–

Lucky the Clown has been pointing the way to the Circus Circus Hotel, Casino & Theme Park since the 1970s. The circus theme continues inside, with free circus performances each day including acrobats, trapeze artists and, of course, yet more clowns. The hotel also includes a theme park with various rides and attractions, an outdoor water park with pools and slides, six restaurants, and the casino itself, with slot machines, table games and sports betting.

Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel & Casino
————————————–

Pretty in pink is the name of the game at the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, where the spirit of the old Vegas lives on through the modern hotel’s flamboyant neon sign. Elsewhere you can search out more flamingos, both neon and real – the latter at home in the Wildlife Habitat within the grounds of the hotel. Other attractions include daily shows, five restaurants and the luxurious Flamingo spa, as well as outdoor swimming pools flanked by palm trees.

El Cortez Hotel and Casino
——————————-

The neon sign at the El Cortez Hotel and Casino has been a fixture in Las Vegas since the hotel opened in 1941, and, in recognition of the hotel’s landmark status, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. This family-run hotel and casino is in the heart of Las Vegas’s downtown, and the classic Vegas atmosphere is palpable throughout the casino, bars, lounges and the restaurant. El Cortez also has a spa, beauty salon, and live music shows on the weekend.

Golden Gate Hotel and Casino
———————————

As they like to tell you at the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino, this is the “Las Vegas Original”, having opened in 1906 and welcoming guests through the decades that followed, from the roaring 20s to the era of the Rat Pack and beyond. The tilted letters of the Golden Gate’s neon sign have been long been a famous feature of the city’s oldest casino, but inside you’ll find a modern hotel and casino, while the nearby Fremont Street Experience is downtown Las Vegas’s entertainment district, with five blocks of shops, restaurants and bars to explore.

Paris Las Vegas Resort & Casino
————————————

Many of the neon signs, whether on the strip or downtown, date back to the early days of gambling and entertainment in Las Vegas. At the Paris Las Vegas Resort & Casino, however, the huge neon balloon was launched into the Vegas night sky in the 1990s, modelled on one that flew over Paris in the 18th century. Once inside the resort you’ll find restaurants, bars, a spa and swimming pools, a nightclub and, of course, the casino.
