Blogger Picks: Spooky Hotels for Halloween
“Trick-or-treating is all well and good, but to really get into Halloween you need a truly spooky setting. Unless you happen to live in a haunted mansion full of skeleton-housing closets and creaking floorboards, that can be tricky to conjure up. So take a fright night trip and spend a Halloween in a place that fits the occasion with these spooky hotels around the world, as chosen by a panel of expert travel bloggers who have stayed in the eeriest places, from mysterious caves to haunted castles.

Kale Konak Hotel, Turkey
————————-
Chosen by: Chloe from Wanderlust Chloe
“I’d recommend visiting Cappadocia in Turkey – a magical region with bizarre rock formations and houses built within caves. At the Kale Konak hotel you can stay in the original cave rooms and, as people have lived in Uchisar since around 2000 BCE, there’s certainly enough history for that spooky atmosphere. Even better, towering over the hotel is the eerie sight of rocky Uchisar Castle, which looks like it’s straight out of a horror movie!”

The Commodore Hotel, Cobh, Ireland
———————————–
Chosen by: Paula from Contented Traveller
“The Commodore Hotel in Cobh was one of Ireland’s first purpose-built hotels, constructed in 1854. When the Lusitania was sunk by a German U-boat in 1915 just off the Cobh coast, the hotel was owned by a German family. They were forced to hide in the cellars as the local people tried to burn the hotel to the ground. Instead it became a hospital for the victims of the sinking. The town was also the last port of call for the ill-fated Titanic, and many passengers stayed at the hotel. There have been many accounts of hauntings and strange occurrences here ever since.”

Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac, Quebec, Canada
———————————————-
Chosen by: Renee from We Blog the World
“Quebec City’s Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is a fun choice for the Halloween season. It combines the best of luxury and top-notch service with old-world décor and history. The hotel is styled as a grand castle, and it’s said that the apparition of Louis de Buade, a 17th-century French count who governed what was then New France, still wanders about, seeking to be near his beloved.”

Castle Leslie Estate, Glaslough, Ireland
—————————————–
Chosen by: Carol from Wandering Carol
“After he was killed on the battlefield in France in 1914, former occupant Norman Leslie supposedly appeared in the Red Room of his home, the atmospheric Castle Leslie, one of Ireland’s most unique castle hotels. With secret passages, the bloody shroud of a beheaded earl, a party past in the swinging 60s (hello, Mick Jagger!) and a celebrity favourite for weddings (ahem, Paul McCartney), the award-winning Castle Leslie Estate is my choice for a spooky luxury stay.”
