Six Things to Do in the Maldives

“The Maldives is a stunning part of the world, and there are many great ways that you can spend your time exploring the region. If you’re looking for some inspiration for your trip to the Maldives, here are six unforgettable experiences to consider.

### 1 Try Diving and Snorkelling

There are fantastic diving and snorkelling opportunities in the Maldives, and if that’s something you’ve ever dreamed of trying, then you should not miss this chance to make that dream a reality. With crystal clear waters and an abundance of beautiful undersea life to witness – including colourful fish, reef sharks and even manta rays – it will be an unforgettable experience. The UNESCO-protected Hanifaru Bay is a great place for diving, and you might even see a whale shark while you’re there.

### 2 Visit the Fish Market in Malé

Malé’s fish market is not only the ideal place to buy fresh fish, it’s also an eye-opening experience and well worth a visit. The noise and smells and sometimes gory reality of the market might not be for the faint of heart, but as an important local hub of commercial activity, it is the beating heart of Malé, and it gives insight into the character of the Maldives. You can watch the day’s catch being hauled in from the harbour, and it’s a fascinating experience, even if you don’t end up purchasing any fish!

### 3 Relax on a Secluded Beach

There are many beautiful beaches to visit in the Maldives, and some of these are quite remote, on uninhabited or sparsely populated islands. With palm trees and pure white sands and brilliant blue water, paradise is out there in the Maldives, just waiting for you to discover it. One of the places where you can find idyllic beaches is on the island of Fulhadoo, which can be accessed via speedboat from Malé.

### 4 Explore the National Museum and Sultan Park

In a large and imposing building in Malé, you’ll find the National Museum, which is a great place to familiarise yourself with the ancient and modern history of the Maldives, and to view interesting artefacts, including some gorgeous lacquer-work boxes. Right alongside the National Museum you’ll find Sultan Park, a beautiful, manicured green space with fountains, sculptures and ponds full of water lilies. It’s the perfect place to find some peace and quiet within the hustle and bustle of Malé.

### 5 Pamper Yourself with Spa Treatments

The Maldives is a wonderful destination for a spa holiday, and there are many stunning spa resorts to choose from. This beautiful part of the world is the perfect backdrop for soothing and pampering treatments such as massages and body scrubs, which are sure to leave you feeling refreshed and relaxed in body and mind.

### 6 Spend Time on the Water

While there’s lots to do on the islands of the Maldives, there’s just as much opportunity to enjoy yourself on or in the water surrounding them. The Maldives has some great surfing spots and opportunities for more extreme water sports, like parasailing and water skiing. You can even take a sunset boat ride or go dolphin spotting.
