1. Museum of the Future

The World Expo 2020 centrepiece, the Museum of the Future is a celebration of global invention using exhibitions, workshops and immersive theatre. The gravity-defying building is an extraordinary feat in itself. Partially 3D printed, this ambitious construction has walls incorporating Arabic calligraphy and pushes new boundaries in architectural creativity.

2. Deira Island’s Night Souk

On a 13-mile (21km) stretch of beach and waterfront, this glitzy night market is a modern take on a traditional Arabic souk. Peruse its astounding 5300 shops and dine by the water at any of 100 restaurants. With an amphitheatre for 30,000 people, it’s destined to be one of Dubai’s top entertainment districts.

3. Opportunity Pavilion

The Opportunity Pavilion is an immersive piece of sustainable architecture that invites you to explore your personal role in human development and how you can impact global change. The vast structure is built of natural or organic materials to create a lush oasis in the desert, and it features a spiral sunshade canopy made entirely of rope.

4. The Sky Walk

Take in the view from 200 metres above ground. On the 53rd floor of the Address Sky View Hotel, this much-anticipated suspended bridge builds a path around the building’s two towers. You’ll be given a safety harness to walk the large observation platform. It’s a must if you enjoy a kick of adrenaline and a sky-high view.

5. The View at The Palm

If adrenaline isn’t your style, take in the vistas from The View. On the Palm Jumeirah, this public observation deck is 52 stories up in the newly opened Nakheel Mall. You can see the branches of the Palm spanning out into the sea, look down the coast and back out over the city’s skyscrapers.

6. Al Wasl Plaza

Right at the heart of the Expo 2020 site is this towering transparent domed trellis. The feat of modern architecture took 800 engineers to erect and highlights the UAE’s constant eye on the future. Visit the site for the Expo between October 2020 and April 2021 to see the 360-degree projections on the surface of the dome.

7. Ain Dubai

Dubai has broken another world record by constructing the world’s largest Ferris wheel. Standing 210 metres high, the attraction has views of the Burj Al Arab, Palm Jumeirah and Burj Khalifa. It’s the central landmark of the Bluewaters Island with an entertainment complex in its base.

8. Zombie Apocalypse Park
