Victoria Cottage is a delightful terraced cottage, formerly half of The Sovereign public house, in pretty Victoria Street, is situated in the heart of the conservation area of Whitstable and a minutes walk to the shops.
The Sovereign pub was originally a Georgian dwelling house with stables, outhouses and small orchard at the rear. It became a beer-house in 1835. The property was called The Sovereign after the currency unit of the time. The Sovereign was the last public house of that name in Kent to be converted back to private use and it became two cottages in 2003. This comfortable, welcoming cottage, traditionally brick built with a pretty slate roof, is cosy in winter and cool and airy in summer. It has a twin attic room and an en-suite double bedroom, a large family bathroom, a fully equipped modern kitchen and a long living room (with double sofa bed) and dining room plus a high chair. The pretty sunny garden, sheltered aspect makes it a delightful place for alfresco dining with a BBQ area or just simply relaxing in the sun.
This family home is perfect for parking up the car in the rear parking space, strolling for a couple of minutes to the beach, rolling up your trousers and dipping your feet in the cool waters or skimming stones between the groins. Before reaching the shore you will pass through the town with its beautiful shops, tempting eateries and many bars. Enjoy a gentle bike ride along the promenade towards Tankerton's life-guarded beach and stop off to walk the mile street at low tide.
There is free street parking on the road and surrounding roads. The nearest paid parking is Victoria Street car park. You can view the charges on the Canterbury City Council website. Parking can be limited in the high season but once you have parked up, you are close enough to walk into town, beach, shops etc.
