Less than a mile from the US Embassy is a couple of striking five-star luxury hotels, but the majority of local hotels are two- and three-star business suites and apartments. You’ll also find boutique hotels with terrace gardens and a pool, nearby, just off the Paseo de la Reforma, which give you a great base for your Mexico City adventures.
Built in 1960, the US Embassy building on Paseo de la Reforma is certainly in the heart of the action. Reforma, an impressive tree-lined boulevard, is home to Mexico City’s most important landmarks and impressive buildings. Not far from the US Embassy, you can see the Angel of Independence Memorial as well as the Torre Mayor, one of the largest buildings in Mexico City.
On your stroll along Paseo de la Reforma from the US Embassy, spot the Monumento a los Ninos Heroes, at the entrance to the Chapultepec Park.
In Chapultepec Park, you can see the Castillo de Chapultapec, once the president’s residence and now home to the National History Museum. Next head to the National Museum of Anthropology, the Museum of Modern Art and the Chapultepec Zoo. The park itself is well worth an explore – the green lungs of Mexico City is one of the largest urban parks in the world.
North of Chapultepec and just a short distance from the US Embassy is the upscale district of Polanco, where you will find many of Mexico City’s upmarket hotels, boutiques and restaurants. For more shopping and nightlife, check out nearby Zona Rosa or the bohemian neighbourhood of La Condesa.
