The Essex Golf and Country Club

"Good price and nice breakfast with cooked to order options. Lovely to have a hotel with a full gym and swimming pool. Location is a little odd as it's on an old airfield I believe which is now an industrial estate. Part of the grounds is a golf club but there are limited areas which are available there to walk or run meaning I ended up having to use a treadmill for my morning run instead of running outside. Seems a shame to not make the golf course more multi use and either push people into running like a hamster or onto roads shared with trucks. The swimming pool is a lovely addition but very strange. In the women's changing, you lock your locker with your room card. Great! But then where do you put it? I ended up doing a couple of lengths with it in my hand but it felt a bit strange. I would have used the facilities more if it was all a bit more thought through. That said, nice place, just needs a bit more joined up thinking to make it a great place."

"The hotel was in a great location but parking at the local multi-storey was very expensive. The breakfast was lovely but our evening meal was very disappointing as there wasn’t much left on the menu. What we did have was very bland. The staff were very friendly and our room was lovely but did overlook people in the restaurant which was a bit invasive."

"It’s a little confusing when you are booking the Novotel hotel since there are multiple locations. This location is nice because you can walk across the canal and it’s a nice way to see the city. It’s close to a wonderful breakfast spot on the canal!"

"The hotel is above a busy gastro pub that has a friendly atmosphere. Friendly staff and the breakfast was good. The room was clean and well equipped. My only criticism is the toilet are the crunching ones, so make a lot of noise and make the bathroom smell really bad. They should add strong air fresheners to them. Parking is a bit of a nightmare as carpark so is busy with pub customers, and limited spaces. No priority given to hotel guests, which to me seems illogical, as I have booked to stay at the hotel with free parking. The the nearest alternative car park is a mile away. They should change the car park to hotel guest only. Overall I would recommend this place."

"We had a wonderful stay at the Delta Marriott while visiting the area for a family birthday! Since it was an unusually hot day, walking into a crisp, perfectly air-conditioned room was a huge relief. Our room was very spacious for our family of four, with comfortable beds, quality linens, excellent room amenities, and a nice, clean bathroom. The kids loved the pool, which is conveniently located in its own separate area. Breakfast the next morning was great with plenty of variety to keep everyone happy, and the staff were exceptionally polite, friendly, and helpful throughout our stay. All in all, a fantastic experience—we’d definitely stay here again!"
