"We chose this hotel because we were travelling for a wedding. Although the hotel itself was great, a couple of things let it down. Before our stay, I called several times to ask about an early check-in and was told we would need to check on the day. When we arrived early, despite the hotel knowing our arrival time, we were told that no rooms were available for early check-in. While this wasn't the end of the world, when we asked if there was somewhere we could get changed before the wedding, we were directed to the disabled toilet. That wasn't an ideal experience when trying to get ready for such an important event. Once we eventually checked in, the air conditioning in our room wasn't very effective, so the room became extremely hot. We were also told that our stored luggage would be taken up to our room, but this never happened. Despite these issues, we had a pleasant stay overall. The hotel was clean and comfortable, and the staff were generally friendly. We would stay here again, but hope these areas can be improved."

"Breakfast was a bit hit and miss, being shown to a table which wasn’t ready or cleared on both mornings. The first morning, no one actually came and cleared the table so we had to find one ourselves!"
The Holt Hotel
"The hotel was lovely with a welcoming atmosphere. The location was an ideal base for exploring the local attractions. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet with very comfortable beds. Housekeeping was daily which was lovely. Food was very good with an excellent breakfast, spoilt for choice including options for those with allergies/intolerances. I have allergies to soya, cow’s dairy, egg and beef which is a real challenge for me, especially when eating out. The waiters and chef could not have been more helpful in accommodating me which I really appreciated. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again."
Whately Hall
"The Whately Hall was even better than we expected. The room was large and airy with everything that we needed to make our stay comfortable. The evening meal was served by a very polite waitress for whom nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was self service with a choice of continental and a Full English Breakfast with a choice of how you wanted your eggs cooked. Or both if you had enough room. All the staff were exceptionally well mannered and it was clear that they were there to help whenever they were needed. Thank you, we really enjoyed our stay."
Victoria House Stow
"We booked Room 7 which is very small and at the top of two flights of winding stairs. This created serious problems because one of us has mobility issues and uses a rolling walker. The staff offered to switch us to another, larger, lower down room. The courtesy was appreciated. The location of Victoria House is a short walk to the grocery store, restaurants, and the bus station which made it ideal for someone with mobility issues."

"We stayed in room 9 and it was quaint and delightful. The room was perfect. The whole hotel is just beautifully put together. We had dinner and breakfast and the food was great! The staff were super friendly and helpful. All around it was an excellent experience. 100% recommend!"

The local market runs on the second Thursday of each month from 9.30am to 1pm and is well worth visiting to pick up local produce, crafts and gifts. If you prefer antiques shopping, you'll find Tudor House Antiques and Durham House Antiques are both renowned in the area, and it's easy to spend a whole afternoon browsing their wares. With most hotels offering free self-parking, it's easy to get from A to B without worrying about finding a parking space, although during the day the local bus service is pretty reliable.
