Carrying luggage up and down was very challenging particularly as Torquay is not the kind of resort that attracts younger guests. Street parking is a lottery with not sufficient spaces for the large number of apartments. "Arrived in the rain but didn’t put a dampener on our stay. Super cosy cottage, with everything that we needed. Location was perfect and with fields opposite we could let our dog have a runaround before venturing out for the day. "We have stayed at Astor house before so we came back to the same apartment. They had upgraded the sofas to recliners which was a nice surprise. The apartment itself is easy to get to clean and Torquay town centre is a short walk away. It has a great view over the beach side of Torquay and the area is quiet. The place is clean and well maintained and the host kindly provided some biscuits and milk. I would highly recommend this place."

"Nice central location. Hôtel is a stately structure and is in places looking a little tired. A great choice of food for breakfast but you may find quite suitable options for less cost in the close neighbourhood. Staff are very helpful and friendly. I would be happy to stay here again."

"Exterior of the hotel a bit shabby but made up for when you enter the lobby. You can see how in years gone by this was the place to stay. Still has charm, chandeliers, colourful glass roof and huge spiral staircase. Staff were great. Proper white shirts and black waistcoat uniforms. At meal times they were everywhere. Plenty of choices at breakfast. Room had plenty of storage, bathroom was clean, bed was comfy. We had a sea view room with sliding door onto a patio with sunbeds, worth paying the extra for the sea view room."

"Hotel: Easy check-in. Spacious, well appointed room. Comfortable. No dressing table with well lit mirror, which sadly seems a common theme with modern hotels. The View Restaurant: Welcoming, friendly knowledgable and attentive service without being intrusive, spacious with fantastic views, reasonable prices for very well presented and tasty meals. Unusual that the accessible room allocated was on the 7th floor (therefore up a lift or several flights of stairs), at the very end of the corridor, then off the side wing of that beyond a fob controlled door into a short corridor."
