"We had an amazing time here! Our terrace room had a beautiful view, the breakfast was lovely and the staff were amazing! They made reservations for us and brought us extra toiletries multiple times. Everyone was so friendly! The location of the hotel couldn’t be better either. Staying here enhanced how magical our stay in Camogli was!"

"Excellent Hotel Metropole! Excellent location, beautiful rooms, and wonderful customer service from the whole staff. The area felt safe and easy to get around on foot, and it was easy to catch the ferry to Portofino. Highly recommend!!"

We have stayed at many hotels over the years in Rapallo but this is by far the best. When we arrived check in was so easy and the staff were friendly and helpful and showed us to our room while my car was taken away to the garage. The bedroom was clean and well set out with coffee machine etc. and a good supply of cold water. Bathroom spotless and with everything you needed. Breakfast was plentyfull and with a wide choice including hot food cooked to order not getting cold in trays. Throughout...

Perfectly placed at the end of the seafront, the Astoria is small and very welcoming. Rapallo town centre is a short walk away as is the railway station. On arrival we were welcomed by Alessandro and Sara who were the perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and we had a fantastic week. The room, though not huge, was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The breakfast buffet was varied and ample for us. Highly recommended.

Very much enjoyed our week's stay at The Continental. We had a nice sea view room on the second floor with a small balcony. The outlook from this hotel across its beautiful gardens across the bay at Santa Marg. is outstanding whether from the room or having a drink on the terrace. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. Great breakfast on the terrace every morning and short walk down the hill to the charming town. So much better than overrated Portafino. Only negative we had was that the hotel sun...

Service was great from start to finish! Hotel is very stylish and the rooms pleasant. Great to park outside and have the car moved to a secure space whilst we were there too. We’ll come again. Oh and the food was fabulous!

The hotel service, from checking in, to room cleanliness and great breakfast helped to make our stay relaxing and wanting to stay longer than our 3 days. You do not need a car, it is in easy walking distance to the marina and restaurants and shops. The staff were very friendly and supportive in directing us to many good places to eat and visit. The private terraces and beach front was an added bonus.

We found the hotel right in the middle of the town. surrounded by bars and restaurants and a lovely walk through shaded, busy, ally's in the old town. Close to the beach and the ferry to Portofino. Portofino is too busy and full of tourists. The rooftop bar was a revelation. Watch the moon rise over the bay sipping a cocktail. Spot on. No swimming pool, if you are that inclined. Parking is across the street. Had a lovely stay and will return.

We chose this hotel because it was a heritage building, a small-ish hotel just metres from the sea front and it did not disappoint. It has been beautifully restored and has a lovely, romantic feel. We had a standard double room which was fine - few frills but elevated by the patio area accessed by double doors from our room and the lovely view from it out across the rooftops of the town and to the hills behind. Shower was hot & powerful. Breakfast was varied and plentiful, all staff really...

This place is lovely. Few minutes walk to the marina where there's lots of cafes, restaurants & shops, lovely town.
Train station is about 20 minute walk.
The hotel was clean with lovely staff, air-conditioning & fridge in the room, great pool area, with a bar for drinks & food at lunchtime. The breakfast was also very nice & a great choice. Would definitely recommend.

Hotel is ideally situated. The ferry to Portofino is a 2 minute walk, as is the town for the restaurants and bars. The railway station is about a 7 minute walk from the hotel. Everything you need is close by. Would highly recommend

The best area to stay in San Massimo is the historic centre, known locally as "Centro Storico."
This area is the heart of San Massimo, located on a hillside overlooking the Ligurian Sea. It's characterised by narrow, cobblestone lanes, pastel-coloured buildings, and small piazzas. The main pedestrian thoroughfare, Via Roma, is where you'll find most of the local shops, cafes, and trattorias. From here, you can easily walk to the Chiesa di San Massimo, a prominent local landmark.
Couples looking for a romantic and authentic Italian experience will find Centro Storico ideal. The intimate setting of the pedestrianised streets, the opportunity to dine al fresco in historic squares, and the stunning sea views from many viewpoints create a memorable stay. You'll enjoy leisurely strolls, discovering hidden gems around every corner.
For families, staying slightly outside the immediate Centro Storico, perhaps in the areas just below, can offer more spacious accommodation options while still being within a short walk of the main attractions. These areas often have properties with small gardens or terraces, providing a bit more room for children to play.
When is the best time to go to San Massimo?
The best times to visit San Massimo are during the shoulder seasons of May, June, September, and early October, avoiding the peak summer crowds while still enjoying pleasant weather.
During these months, the weather is typically warm and sunny without being excessively hot, making it ideal for exploring the Ligurian coastline and its charming villages. You'll find fewer tourists compared to July and August, allowing for a more relaxed experience at popular attractions and local restaurants. The sea is also warm enough for swimming during these periods.
Couples often find these months superb for a romantic getaway. The less crowded beaches and coastal paths offer a more intimate setting for strolls and leisurely meals. Many hotels and restaurants still operate at full capacity but with a more relaxed pace, ensuring excellent service and availability.
Families travelling with younger children will also appreciate the shoulder seasons. The milder temperatures are more comfortable for little ones, and the reduced crowds mean less waiting and more space to enjoy the beaches and playgrounds.
