Football fans should book a hotel room near to Genoa's Stadio Luigi Ferraris, a 37,000-capacity stadium set on the east bank of the Bisagno River, a bit over a mile east of the city centre. With a glorious setting between the mountains and the Ligurian Sea, this football ground is an impressive Genoan landmark. Often referred to as Marassi, after the neighbourhood it’s in, this football and rugby stadium is used by C.F.C Genoa and U.C. Sampdoria.

There are few places very near Stadio Luigi Ferraris, but head to Pre and the main railway station to find friendly B&Bs, cheap motels or look to Magdalena for mid-range brand hotels and upscale five-star accommodation. Whatever your taste and budget, you will find accommodation to suit you that's within easy reach of the Genoa football stadium.

History of Genoa Stadium

Opened on 22 January, 1911, with a friendly match between Genoa and Internazionale, Genoa's stadium was built by Genoa C.F.C and could originally hold 20,000 spectators. The stadium was renamed in 1933 after the legendary Genoa player Luigi Ferraris, who was killed during World War I. The stadium was demolished and rebuilt as a purpose-built football stadium for the 1990 FIFA World Cup, increasing its capacity to more than 37,000. Today, the stadium hosts international football games, as well as a few rugby union matches and music concerts.

Eating at Genoa Stadium

There are a few small snack stalls dotted throughout the stadium. The Marassi area around the ground has several friendly bars and restaurants if you want to enjoy dinner and a drink before or after the game, but you'll find a wider choice of options in the buzzing city centre.

Visit Luigi Ferraris Stadium
