Great location. That"s the only positive!

We had a very disappointing stay in this "hotel," service was very poor and staff, apart from Richard in the harbour restaurant, couldn't care less about providing good customer service. room was tiny and I have several bruises on my legs from trying to manoeuvre round the bedroom! would never stay here again. Entertainment resembled something from a 1970s holiday canp! One of the bars closed at nine o'clock resulting in a lengthy queue for drinks at the other bar. Breakfast was tasteless and the only request we made to have decaff coffee or tea in our room wasn't met. A long check in resulted in a parking fine of £25. Just what we needed after travelling five hours from Scotland. Lifts were difficult to access so we didn't and walked to the fifth floor every time where we met other guests on the stairs who were extremely unhappy about the lift situation. We heard various complaints over our stay and not one of them was responded to appropriately by staff. It's such a shame, this could be a "grand" hotel in the right hands with the right staff. extremely disappointed and will never return.

NEEDS A MASSIVE REFURB

Posted 08-Aug-2016
Pros: LOCATION.
Cons: EVERTHING
CHECK IN TOOK AGES, STAFF WERE DISORGANISED. THE HOTEL IS RUN DOWN AND NEEDS A MASSIVE REFURB. CARPETS ARE DIRTY AND WORN. OUTSIDE TERRACE AREA WAS DISGUSTING WITH FOOD AND RUBBISH ON THE FLOOR WITH SEAGULLS PICKING AT IT ALL. THE ROOM WAS OLD FASHIONED BUT CLEAN. BREAKFAST WAS POOR WITH LIMITED SELECTION.

Terrible Hotel!

Posted 30-Jul-2016
Pros: Close to the beach
Cons: Everything!
Location: Good location close to the beach and the town
Check in took two hours. Had booked a sea view room and was given an internal room with no windows! After complaining was allocated another one which was filthy, the shower cubicle wasn't fit to wash a dog in. Given a third room which was fine then told I had to move! Shown a fourth room still no sea view, finally after two hours got a room with a sea-view. Bathroom cleaner but very dimly lit, one light not working asked for it to be repaired, it wasn't. Asked for a remote control for the T.V. didn't get one. Cleaned the room myself one day when the domestic staff couldn't be bothered! Public areas not very clean at all. All in all, very disappointed, except in fairness the staff did try to help the queue of people complaining, Yes, there was a queue everyday of very unhappy people

Awful hotel, disgusting breakfast

Posted 28-Jul-2016
Absolutely awful stay. Our experience of a 1 night stay was: Half hour queue to book in, but felt worse for guests who just wanted to collect their key or report a problem as they also had to queue for half hour. Rooms were dated, which we expected due to the cost but what I didn't expect was the dirt and dust everywhere, to the point I didn't unpack - no excuse for not being cleaned!! Breakfast was THE WORST EXPERIENCE I have ever had. 2 large areas of the restaurant, the tables were set but they were blocked off. We wondered around looking for a table for 4 for at least 10 minutes before I told a member of staff there was no tables, she was pleasant and helpful and took us to a table where they were blocked off. 5 minutes later another member of staff told us we had no right to sit there and told us to move onto another table with another family. 2 of our party didn't have anything to eat as it looked awful. 2 of us tried it but couldn't eat it, it was dreadful, even the tea and coffee was inedible. After complaining to the manager, who wasn't helpful or understanding at all he admitted they don't use real eggs for the scrambled eggs, it comes in a 5 litre container. I have only commented on the worst of our 1 night stay. Needless to say we won't be going back again

Absolutely hilarious!

Posted 14-Jul-2016
We had a riot at the grand, initially attracted to it by the fact that it looked a bit like the titanic (where it did not disappoint!). Unfortunately there were a few issues with our stay, nothing major but we generally had the feeling that although staff were lovely and helpful, no one really seemed to have a clue what was going on! Something we found charming and funny but could be frustrating if you were actually in a rush to get things done.

disappointing

Posted 11-Jul-2016
Pros: staircase
Cons: decoration of the whole place. Cleanliness of entrance, steps and doorway.
Not so grand. Dreadful food (breakfast). Bathroom in very poor condition. Ramp doorway near lift left open all the time, so freezing wind blowing through the corridor. Overall not to be recommended.
