We used this as our base and went for day trips using local trains and Shinkansen (eg to Hiroshima). There is a big shopping centre right next door as well as a lot of shopping at the train station. Plenty of food options nearby. The rooms are quite comfortable for a family of 4. The washing facilities are great so you don't need to pack too many clothes.
