"Good location"
a nice hotel in a great location 3 minutes from the cliff. I noted before I booked that a few previous guests had complained about the room being very cold at night. As most had stayed in winter months and I was going in late April I ignored this! As it turned out we had a very cold snap, and the previous reviews were correct. Instead of just submitting a bad review I took the time to report it to the owners and they could not have been more helpful. When I returned to my room they had put in a freestanding electric heater to assist the wall mounted one. That was all it needed and the room was nice and warm for the remained of the stay. The hotel is a very old building and I guess it does get cold in the winter months, but just tell the owners. The breakfast was wonderful, and far exceeded expectations for a seaside hotel. Overall a nice stay with really nice and genuine owners.

"Lovely Hotel"
The reason this Hotel only got a 3 for Room Comfort was down to the hotel and especially the room was far too hot - unbearably so. Other than that my room was of an ample size with everything provided, as was the bathroom. Other than that, it was excellent. Staff were extremely friendly and polite with Nick being very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. The food was beyond excellent - especially the evening meals. My only criticism would be that I didn't like the long wait for the cooked breakfast and didn't like the sausages. One tip; please keep the fresh grapefruits in the fridge - a warm half a grateful is not good!!! Good and safe parking. I thoroughly recommend this hotel, but stay away from room 37 if you want the window open, outside is a motor/generator, so you won't get a lot of sleep.

"Going Back in Time"
If you like big old houses that have seen bygone times then this is the place for you. The hosts were welcoming, friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. The rooms are large and spacious without central heating and double glazing but our hosts lit lovely log fires to keep us warm, a very different experience to your normal B & B.

"Pleasant Hotel, few minutes walk to beach."
Pleasant Hotel, could do with some updating, our room looked nothing like web site pictures but it was clean and comfortable. Breakfast choice is very limited if you don't like cooked, but my husband assured me the cooked was very nice! Parking is on a first come first served basis, there were 2 mini buses taking 5 spaces during our stay but we managed to park alongside building next door. Could be a problem in the height of the season. Staff very friendly and helpful, would stay here again if visiting Shanklin!

"The views alone are worth the money!"
We booked one of the top floor rooms along with a sea facing balcony and the view alone was worth the money! The balcony had a couple of chairs and a small table and you could sit for hours watching the sea and the beach. The seafront was a 5 minute walk away, (quite a steep hill), with some great places to eat and the town was 5 minutes walk away as well. The room itself was comfortable & clean with a comfortable bed, lovely shower and to be able to wake up in the morning to the sound of waves was great! Breakfast was lovely and contrary to some other reviews on here, the staff were all excellent & very friendly. The building is old, so unsurprisingly there is some flaky paint and rough walls. If you want boring modern, go to a premier inn: this is a gorgeous old building with all that goes with it. Ignore some of the negative reviews on here: if you are expecting dull faceless modern hotel rooms, this isn't the place for you, but for some character, this was great.
