"Weekend break"
Clean and comfortable, but how this hotel retains 4 * is questionable. Basic facilities with very high prices for food drink etc. Staff could not have been nicer though, very professional and courteous at all times. A bit of a tired building from the early 80's

"Great value if a little soulless "
It is no surprise this hotel is popular; Farnborough has nothing going for it so the locals seem to have embraced the chance to have an upscale pub to watch the football with decent gym attached. Beloved by wannabe WAGs and TOWIE types, it is nonetheless clean, stylish and cheap.

"Character Plus"
I wanted to stay somewhere with character & I got it in spades. The floors creaked loudly & the staircase slanted - and I loved it! The location was great & the staff members were excellent. Breakfast was included on our price & was varied & plentiful. My only quibble was the shower cubicle was the smallest I'd ever seen & not easy to get in & out of. Would I stay there again? Absolutely!

Mercure Wessex Winchester Hotel

"A good location for seeing the city and cathedral"
The hotel is a modern building but beginning to show its age. There seem to be few rooms with assisted bathrooms, unless we were unlucky in not securing one at the time of booking. Our stay was very pleasant though. We have visited Winchester several times a year for the past twenty-five or so and The Wessex has been our hotel of choice for many of them. Our idea is to get a break from grinding routine and being at everyone's beck and call. It's not far from home but satisfies us enormously. Three nights is just enough and economic. The city is compact and even a little quaint. Frightfully English! Not much alteration to buildings or development would be permitted. The cathedral is an architectural masterpiece and interesting for all religions and none. People are really friendly in Winchester and especially polite and helpful in the shops, etc.We rely on all this and it never lets us down.

Only problem I had with it was that the "king sized" bed was in fact two single beds so there was always a line down the middle of the bed.

"A grand old hotel running on life support"
This is the second Britannia hotel at which I have stayed in the past 9 months and the experience was much better than the first. We were just looking a hotel near the M3 to break a journey. Arrived quite late. Clean spacious room, sparsely furnished. The hotel is built round a large quadrangle. In the center is a metal and glass structure (reminiscent of the big pavilion at Kew Gardens) which today houses fitness equipment and a swimming pool. Didn't try breakfast, so can't comment on the food. Overall, experience -- very passable and good value for money.

"Lovely setting for a night away. "
Just a few observations: -Lovely scenery and a peaceful location in the Hampshire countryside. -Staff were helpful and friendly. -Food through room service was tasty, well cooked and decent portions. -Breakfast good though I can imagine that you might think it overpriced if paid for separately and not included in room rate. -The room was a great size and layout with contemporary furnishings and touches like fresh milk in the fridge and biscuits next to the kettle. -Nice bathroom with large bath and heated floor. -There was a generator outside our window which had a constant irritating buzz but that went off in the early hours.
