Very pleasant hotel

Posted 15-Jan-2016
Pros: Room was sizeable and well laid out. Grounds and location were very pretty.
Cons: Cups on the early morning tray could be bigger. Exterior lighting needs improving. Better maintenance would improve my experience.
Location: We were in the area to visit family but know that the nearby Botley Village has a lovely cafe.
Dissappointed to find that the site signs were badly illuminated (arrived after dark). On leaving in the morning the signs did not seem to be very helpful. Staff gave a helpful greeting on arrival. Bathroom looked very clean but the shower was badly installed. Although there were two fittings for the spray attachment, the water pipe was too short to reach the better fitting. The consequence was that the spray was such that the tiled floor was wet and slippery after taking a shower. Also the ventilator did not seem to be working. Such a lovely place to stay but let down by poor maintenance.

A little far out of the way but a very nice place.

Just be aware that you do not sleep in the big house. You have a room in separate buildings on the grounds. Breakfast, however, is served in the house and it didn't disappoint. Beautiful place. Bring a hair dryer. They didn't have one in the room.

Pros: The architecture of the large house.
Cons: The walls in the rooms are 'thin' and so you could hear voices and the toilet flushing. Once everyone had settled down for the night ,it was quiet .
The room was comfortable with tea and coffee facilities. In the main building which is just a short walk from theropods Breakfast is served, you could choose a cooked breakfast ,fruit and cereal toast and jams or what ever you decided. The car park is close walking distance to the chalet rooms. A very pleasant stay.

Great hotel as usual but avoid party nights

Posted 08-Dec-2015
Excellent rooms. But with party night and a wedding some guests forget where they were and very noisy in early hours. Mention it to man on reception who didnt even apologise and said ill past it on.. poor show devere. Am a regular here. What happened to the friendly staff? Looking forward for your comments.

Location: We went to a fantastic Indian resturant called Naz's down the road (5 min drive) - best Indian we have had. We visited Gunwarf Quays outlets - brill!
The hotel grounds are beautiful, and room was well presented (although boiling hot!) and bed was very comfortable. Staff friendly and very polite and welcoming. Breakfast was slightly dissapointing, Croissants were so dry, pancakes freezing cold, black pudding raw. Everything looked great but actual quality of food was cheap and poor. I would however stay at this hotel again in the future, I just wouldn't eat in!

Needs a shake up!

Posted 10-Nov-2015 on Hotels
There's loads about this hotel that needs a shake up. In a way our stay was fine, but so many times staff got in the way of us with no apology instead of caring for and helping us. Only right at the end did I chat to a good member of staff, so I think there needs to be a shift in the culture. The room wasn't ready for us in completion and there was no information about the hotel in the room. Last but not least as it makes for a bad first impression, the reception venue makes very little sense!

very unimpressed

don't both with this pretentious place. I was on my own on a 2 night business trip and was treated very rudely. They tried to seat me in down the end of a dark corridor for my evening meal! When I refused they wouldn't do anything about it, so I went and had a fantastic meal in a local pub instead. Also, breakfast is a let down - just fried rubbish and standard fruit and cereals. No smoked salmon, kippers etc. and butter etc all just in a packet. might as well go to a Premier Inn.

Premuum price for un-premium room

Posted 06-Nov-2015 on Hotels
The service was excellent, the staff were very friendly and overall the hotel and facilities were nice, but the room was very dusty and was in need of a refresh/redecoration the bed was small compared to most hotels and it also lacked a/c.

Run by amateurs.

Posted 02-Nov-2015
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: The room cleanliness. The floating brown scum in the jacuzzi. The service. The staff professionalism.
We were staying for 1 night to attend an event locally and paid over £100 for a double room. We stayed in a tired chalet room on the ground floor with marginally soiled carpets. There was pubic hair in our bath. My husband ordered room service for a snack before going out and was advised it would take 30 minutes which was fine. Following my swim, the room service had not arrived 50 minutes later and with no response by phone to reception, he cancelled the order....not impressed as he is diabetic and needed to eat more than the snacks we had had enroute. The following morning we went down to breakfast only to be sarcastically told by the smug 'manager' that there were no tables available for us and that we'd have to return in 10 minutes. There was no apology and we were stunned that a large company such as this was unable to cope with the normal schedule of it's hotel guests. Never again, especially as after returning we got breakfast but were offered no tea or coffee. All the staff were pre-occupied with the setting up of a wedding fayre rather than looking out for their existing customers. We felt that once this company had received our money they were not the least bit interested in providing a professional service that was worthy of what we paid.
