Nice hotel handy for the overall area

Posted 18-Oct-2017
Pros: Area and situation
Cons: Do not allow dogs into hotel and improve the service at breakfast
There were too many dogs in the bar area where people are eating. Large dogs were a nuisance and smaller dogs were allowed on the furniture. Breakfast was very slow and the tables were not cleared for other people arriving to eat. Apart from those two complaints we found the hotel acceptable.

Nice hotel with good access to the Cotswold attrac

Posted 16-Oct-2017
Pretty hotel from outside. Mix of styles inside which feels a bit muddled. Room was a bit dated, dim lighting, blackened bathroom tiles but beautiful 4 poster bed and great shower. Service a bit slow for dinner and breakfast but food good and reasonable price. Several things not available from the menu.

Nice friendly hotel, just a little tired

Posted 01-Aug-2017
Pros: The staff, the old building and the location
Cons: Refurbish the bedrooms, improve the menus and get rid of the TV's and slot machines from the bar. Dont let dogs in!
Location: We were at a private function nearby so didn't get to see much in the local area. There is nothing to do or see in Birdlip, not even a pub or shop!
The hotel is a lovely old coaching inn and it has been extended with many bedrooms to the rear. The bare and restaurant are large but with plenty of intimate spaces, shame there are televisions in the bar area as they do distract and often stop conversation. The food in the reasturant was not very inspiring and very average 'pub grub' quality. Not fine dining. The room we stayed in was 27 and although very clean and comfortable it was very tired and in need of refurbishing. The furninture was well past its sell by date. The bathroom had a badly cracked sink and little giveaways that some changes had been made was that the taps didn't match, so probably a new bath. However, the staff were all very good and helpful and the whole place was clean and tidy.

Total let down

Posted 19-Jul-2017 on Hotels
We stayed here for 1 night thank goodness it wasn't any longer, we thought we would be getting something special as we upgraded to a four poster bed. How wrong could we have been. Check in was average nothing to inviting the place looked okay as we walked in. We upgraded to a superior room thinking save the best till last after a 5 day break traveling, oh my how wrong were we. The room was dated decor was awful, furniture just not nice. Then we looked at the wonderful veiw NOT looked out onto a dismal smoking area. We book to eat in the restaurant not realising we were staying in a chain with a simple pub food menu the same as in the bar, very boring and bland. Service was slow the restaurant was shabby not nice. Phone reception was useless so was the wifi. Breakfast was as expected staff that weren't bothered. To be honest we couldn't wait to get out of the place a total let down. When we checked out we were asked about the stay, I said it was okay the receptionist looked shocked I've no idea why ??? Would we stay again definitely not.

Easy stay on the Cotswold Way with Great Breakfast

Posted 15-Jul-2017
Pros: Restaurant
Cons: The hotel needs some updating and is due for a refurbishment.
Location: Very close to the Cotswold Way!!!
We had a room on the uppermost floor, and even though it faced the street, we weren't bothered by the traffic noise. Dinner and included breakfast were both very good, with a huge breakfast buffet.

Really nice place to stay

Posted 14-Jul-2017 on Ebookers
Pros: Very comfortable, staff very nice people
Location: The Village is very nice
I stayed for 3 nights for work, the hotel is very comfortable, and the staff really nice, I stayed in one of the Superior rooms on the ground floor, which was very nice, but I was disappointed not to have a 4 poster bed as expected from the photo on the ebookers website..

Convenient location to explore the Cotswolds.

Posted 05-Jul-2017
Pros: The location. Have eaten here before in the restaurant but never stayed at the hotel.
Cons: The bedrooms require brighter lighting and also the bathrooms look a little tired!
Location: Convenient location, quiet yet handy to get into Cheltenham.
Room disappointing and slightly dreary - not sufficient light! Breakfasts very tasty and enjoyable.

Old World hotel

Posted 03-Jul-2017 on Ebookers
Pros: Its convenience for visits to places of interest. Easy to find. Very pleasant staff
Cons: The food. Only average at best, often rather over-cooked. Paint work in public rooms
Location: Chedworth Roman villa was an unexpected delight.
Good. The room was great, the pubic rooms have had some up dating, but could do with more.
