Gainsborough house was initially built in the 1520s and became the residence of the Gainsborough family in 1722. This beautiful building was under private ownership until the early-20th Century but was then converted into a museum and art gallery. Today, Gainsborough House is one of the top attractions in the market town of Sudbury. Alongside a rich collection of Gainsborough works, there are paintings by other renowned artists and a selection of museum objects, such rare books, and Gainsborough memorabilia including a studio cabinet, pocket-watch and paint scraper.
