Station House, Helhoughton, Norfolk

Dating back to the Victorian era, Station House was previously the accommodation for the station master. Located in the beautiful rural village of Helhoughton, this hideaway is now a fabulous woodland retreat, full of character and offering easy access to both coastal and rural North Norfolk. Bring your bikes to explore the National Cycle Routes 1 & 2 that traverse the local area.

The period feel of this property has not been lost, just enhanced by an eclectic, interesting and individual style, with up-cycled lamps, retro finds and colourful decor. This semi-detached half-timbered house feels welcoming and relaxing as soon as you walk through the door. If you are looking for space, privacy and somewhere off the beaten track to chill out, this lovely property will appeal to you. Ideal for a small family, a couple or friends, there is lots of room to spread out both inside and out.

There are two bedrooms on the first floor (king-size and twin) and two bathrooms. One is quite a surprise, unique and rather quirky - a bath cupboard in the master bedroom - the other one is a very smart shower room. Downstairs is a well-equipped kitchen, a separate utility/cloakroom, a spacious dining room, and a really cosy, comfortable sitting room with an open fire and a table for a romantic dinner a deux. The garden runs to three sides of the house and is quite magical, with different rooms to explore and enjoy. The whole property is surrounded by wooded farmland and is frequently visited by the local muntjac deer for breakfast. And for exploring on two wheels, bikes can be securely stored in the front porch.

Helhoughton is a small village surrounded by beautiful countryside, just south west of the market town of Fakenham, and about twenty minutes from the coastal resort of Wells-next-the-Sea. It is a great base for exploring this beautiful area of North Norfolk, perfect for walking and cycling, as well as visiting local attractions - Pensthorpe Nature Reserve, Sculthorpe Hawk and Owl Trust, The Thursford Collection and Christmas Spectacular - and enjoying a day at nearby Fakenham Races!

Firstly I should say that the weather wasn't great during the week which limited what we could do in the local area. The house is beautiful and although seems quite remote in its setting, Fakenham is just a few mins away. Unfortunately it's quite close to a pig farm so depending on which way the wind is blowing, it can be quite smelly outside. The house itself is well proportioned with some very interesting pieces but we were surprised how small the kitchen was (especially for a family). However, it had everything we needed. The biggest problem for us though was the WiFi and complete lack of mobile signal. This had been noted by other guests but I couldn't quite believe how poor internet was (no more than 0.2mb at best so pretty much unusable). I know it's a holiday cottage but most of us now are quite reliant on fairly decent internet for planning trips out, keeping in touch with work and family etc so this simply wasn't possible. If I was the owners, I would simply remove the BT hub from the property as it's so poor and frustrating! Overall we did enjoy our stay but the weather wasn't the best and lack of connectivity felt like we were very cut off from the world.

Station House exceeded our expectations on all fronts. Set in a remote rural location but is close enough to the coast and other places of interest, the house itself is thoughtfully decorated (the bath in the cupboard is so cool!) and a lovely place to spend a few days getting away from it all. Watching all the wildlife in the garden was wonderful too. We'll be back again soon!

Station House was beautifully styled, clean and comfortable, in a peaceful woodland location- perfect!

Beautiful home. Home from home experience. Peaceful. Surrounded by nature right on your doorstep. Holiday company excellent to deal with and house was immaculately clean. Not a moan but we would have loved a bigger, more relaxing sofa for more than just two. And more cooking equipment for those of us who love to cook! Otherwise a perfect holiday home which i highly recommend.

Lovely property, very nicely done out with everything you need. In the middle of a wood with a beautiful garden. We had such a relaxing time and would definitely go back.

We are a family of 4, 2 adults with sons 14 and 9. I chose the property for its aesthetics, garden and location. It did not disappoint. The property is clean and stylish and feels like a home from home. Everything was easy, from finding keys and towels to the useful information provided about places to visit and eat. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

10/10

We really enjoyed our stay at Station House. The property has been very tastefully restored and updated, retaining many original features while providing all the modern amenities necessary for a comfortable stay. The location is wooded and quite remote, and the atmosphere enhanced by the presence of the adjacent restored station. It is very quiet, with very little passing traffic, and plenty of wildlife, including owls and deer.

A lovely holiday home. The decor is attractive and quirky and it was a real treat to have a proper open fire.
