"We really enjoyed our stay. The location is perfect, just far enough away on the Royal Mile to avoid the tourist congestion and noise but still extremely close to the main area. The room was a great size with plenty of space to move around and not feel confined like in other tiny hotel rooms that are more expensive. You have a kitchen, little table and sofa which no regular hotel room will provide so u can’t beat this place. We loved everything about our stay. The only thing I would have changed but had seen other reviews with the same issue, was the shower drain. It barely drained likely due to old plumbing so we had to limit the amount of water flow as we showered to avoid from having the base overflow onto the bathroom floor. We didn’t complain to the front desk, we just dealt with it because the rest was great. We would gladly stay here every and anytime we’re in Edinburgh and highly recommend it to others."

"The Scholar is located on the campus of the University of Edinburgh. It was in a cute building with pretty landscaping to walk through. The bus is a five minute walk from the door and takes you anywhere you need to go in town for a few dollars. The hotel was very clean, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom had everything you need including a heated towel rack. I made hot chocolate in the room with the provided electric kettle. My daughter and I ate dinner in Abacus, the restaurant downstairs. It was delicious and the staff were so kind. Highly recommend!"

"The beds were comfortable, the pillows as well. The down filled comforters could’ve been bigger (twin size) but were sufficient for my needs. The staff were friendly & very helpful in helping schedule transportation for the many tours I had booked (1 per day), the breakfast had a great variety & was plentiful. I will definitely be a returning customer!"

"A beautiful,atmospheric place to stay,giving a sense of what living in a historic Scottish country house would be like-not least how chilly it can be in the early autumn before the fires would be lit. Our stay was very enjoyable, helped by the efficient and pleasant staff. Our room was comfortable if a little out of the way up in the roof space but we would have liked more lamps, more hooks and shelves for toiletries and we did not need the large green light pointing the way out to the corridor and safety. Excellent breakfast(including haggis). Lovely grounds and building with a great library,music room,whisky bar to explore."
