It is not easy to get to, so it is not overly populated. We had to stop at a remote gas station and ask the locals. We then walked over three miles one way to find it. The canyon was hidden under water for a long time, until a hydroelectric plant was built and the water flow in the glacier river was extremely reduced. It has one of the biggest and most beautiful basalt columns formation in Iceland.
