"What a cracking pub. What more do you want from a place to stay than have a legendary boozer right below you. The land lady was very friendly and polite, rooms were basic but clean and perfect for my needs. They do a cracking pint downstairs too. Staying again next week for work it was that good and the prices resonable."

We had a brilliant stay at Brampton Dales Farm B&B, a working farm on the outskirts of the village of Upton. After a warm welcome from the owners and their many animal friends, we settled into a cosy, detached outbuilding of our own. We were given good advice on restaurants and local points of interest. Breakfast was plentiful and Hugh's homemade bread was magnificent! Thank you for a memorable break!

I had planned to stay in Lincoln city centre (visiting daughter at uni) but found Woodcocks on the hotels.com website and liked the look of it, and the price. It didn't disappoint - lovely room, great setting in rural surroundings but 10 minutes into town, easy access and parking, warm welcome and service and a bar with darts/pool etc to round off the evening. We will definitely be back.

Absolutely loved my stay at The Duke William, the staff were super friendly and welcoming and very helpful. The room was very clean & quiet, however I don’t think it would be quiet in summer as the room (#2) overlooks the garden which is actually the beer garden. However there were other rooms that didn’t face the garden. Be warned though it’s at the top of a very steep hill, I walked from the train station, pretty hard going pulling a suitcase.

The air conditioning was really welcome in our outside room. So quite we were able to sleep with it on. Nice hot showers in the morning, plenty of space in the rooms and comfotable seating. Staff friendly and very helpful, second time we have used them and will do so again in the future.

Fantastic host looked after us incredibly well, the place is right opposite the Lincolnshire county show ground, peaceful and quiet, we had a lovely walk up and down the bridal path.
The host is an artist and showed us her works which is very impressive.
The site has a new sauna and hot tubs for guests to enjoy.
The breakfast was brought to us at the time we chose.
Loved it and would book again if we are in the area.

Stayed for three nights while visiting relatives in Lincoln. Surprised! Excited! Thrilled with the size of bed, the space to move, the bathroom facilities, the wholeness it created for a traveller on the move.

What a gem Creston Villa is! Thanks to Anna and Iain who made our stay a real home from home. From the breakfast with lots of choice, including so many jams, marmalades and relishes to homemade cookies to take with us for a later treat. We loved everything and we didn’t need to know anything about Lincoln before our trip, we could’ve learned it all at breakfast! Great location, easy walk into town or use the local bus service from just outside the property. Highly recommend. Thank you x

The best area to stay in Cottam and the surrounding region is the Ribble Valley, particularly around the towns of Clitheroe and Longridge.
The Ribble Valley is a picturesque area known for its rolling hills, quaint villages, and excellent food scene. Clitheroe, a market town, is often considered the heart of the valley. It's dominated by Clitheroe Castle and its grounds, offering lovely views. The town centre has independent shops, cafes, and pubs, particularly along Castle Street and Market Place. This area is ideal for couples seeking a tranquil getaway with opportunities for scenic walks and fine dining.
For families, staying closer to Longridge might be more suitable. Longridge is a larger town with more amenities and easy access to outdoor activities. It's a good base for exploring the Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where families can enjoy walks, cycling, and picnics. There are also several farms and visitor attractions nearby that cater to children.
Both Clitheroe and Longridge offer a relaxed base for exploring the wider Lancashire countryside.
When is the best time to go to Cottam?
The best time to visit Cottam is during the warmer, drier months of late spring, summer, and early autumn, specifically from May to September.
During these months, you'll experience the most pleasant weather, with longer daylight hours and generally less rainfall, making it ideal for exploring the local countryside and enjoying outdoor activities. Families might find the summer holidays, particularly July and August, superb for a visit, as the weather is typically at its best for exploring attractions like the nearby Beacon Fell Country Park or enjoying walks along the Lancaster Canal.
Couples looking for a peaceful getaway might prefer the shoulder months of May, June, or September. The weather is still very agreeable, but there are fewer crowds, allowing for a more relaxed experience when visiting local villages or enjoying a quiet meal at a country pub.
